A 100 meetups and still going! :)

Sziasztok!

I just realized that last Saturday's magnificent event at Barna's marked our 100th event anniversary! :) (And we have collectively posted 100 photos - it must be a magical number.) Our group is getting better and better in time, we have more members (close to 400, and that's with removing inactive members regularly), more fun events, and I'm hearing from more and more of you that you are getting together outside of these events to socialize, cultivate your friendships, practice the language, keep our heritage alive... I am so happy for our group, it has really come together well. :)

If you have not been coming to our events recently, or have never been, think back to why you joined  the group. Was it to meet local Hungarian friends? To practice the language? To get out more with your fellow Magyars? That's exactly what this group is about! Join us, get involved, come to events, host events if you can, and stay in touch with those that struck a chord with you. That's the only way to get anything out of the group. We have a lot to offer, but you have to come out and meet us first! ;-)

With that said, I have a few ideas for our group and I'd love to add them to the calendar soon, but I will need some help with these:

*A Hungarian card- and boardgame night would be a lot of fun! I could only host for 12 of you, so if someone with a larger home steps in, I will bring my games.

*We have talked about a Hungarian jewelry making afternoon, and I am happy to conduct the instruction (I've been dabbling into that for a while...), but again, I might need someone else to host. This is probably for the ladies only... :)

*We have been talking about a Hungarian book swap - again, we just need a location (perhaps the bookstore we talked about?)

*As our national holidays approach, I will add official events by the Consulate and the Hungarian House to our calendar, as well as those events that might interest the group (I just added a movie screening for March 3rd, please check on the website). It might be a good idea for you to sign up for their mailing list as well, if you'd like to keep track of events, since I will not be able to post everything. I usually only post events that at least one of our organizers can attend.

*When the weather gets warmer, we will go to picnic, and the beach, and I'd love to take a trip to the San Diego Hungarian House and see our members up there too (Juli, we miss you guys!)... And summer will be a great time for our members with a pool to host an event - pool parties are always a favorite! - Here's looking at you, Olivia! ;) Of course hiking up to Brian's cabin is best in warmer weather as well - Easter hike, Brian? :)

*We will continue to visit the Hungarian restaurants in the area (Duna Csarda, Maximillian's, Mishi's). These are great for a larger number of us, and we don't have to deal with cooking and doing the dishes... :)

*Our potlucks will also stay part of the plan, of course... These seem to be everyone's favorite because of the more intimate feel they have... I am still looking for hosts, so please contact me if you can host an event for us. If you can have 10 people over, it's already great. Ideally we would have larger meetups, 25 seems to be the sweet spot for our group, but not all of us has a large enough home to accommodate that, so we just have to rotate and come to the next one, or better yet, host the next one! :)

*I am open to your ideas, so let me know what event you'd like to see on the calendar (save for religious and political events, since we have established that our group will stay away from any "controversy" and that approach has been working great for a while now)...

So let me know. And stay active. See you soon.

:)

Nanda

P.s. Sorry about the English only. I'm supposed to be working, (pssst!) so I will skip the translation for now. :)
