Hartford Art Sled Derby!

We Got Snow ... so See this event by Paul Spirito sledder and maker :

That event site has the following some of which I copy just as an appetizer. While attendance may be light , the snow is here for a change. Get it while you can . Kids may like this too. Our makers may want to get together to make some sled. - dave

Be Creative! Have Fun! Go Sledding!

How to build an "Art Sled"...

Step 1: Grab an already existing sled, or anything that will slide on the snow.

Step 2: Have Fun!

Step 3: Be Creative! Add decorations, sculpture, lights, flags, banners, fabric, construction, ANYTHING YOU WANT!

I may not be able to go but certainly this is good event to support and there is snow. While we do not have the woodworking stuff perhaps members can work one with another to create something. So aside from FB this may be a way for members to get th Also to promote our MakeHartford group with these creative sledders who are our kind of people.

Here's what they did in Minneapolis n 2011 - after a few years' practice.

Start at 4:34 minutes.

The 915 prospect ave location listed is just a guess for street address , a place holder ... Wander around and Go with the crowds ..

Hill to the right of The Overlook on the Hartford side of Prospect Street opposite Elizabeth Park. From The Overlook (where you can see the Hartford skyline) keep walking to the right. Follow the crowd to the course

Some clever artistic people are going to be really wild and creative and design/decorate their sleds and then go sledding. Whoo hoo! They will bestow special honors /goofy "awards" like "Best use of duct tape," Best crash, "Grandest Spectacle," "Best re-purposing," etc. Since it's the "First," I'm not sure what to expect in terms of how many sleds there will be. We can give it a try!

I leave this meetup so that others can edit this text and make other suggestions etc. I do this since I am not the expert or artsy sledder. But I may just try a slide.

We do want to catch some new creative people and this may be an event for catching some good creative members who may help us make our space.

Stacey, indeed that is what I get for late night posting , Not 11 PM but it is 11 AM. Thanks , good spotting. Night time PM frolics with lighted ice sculptures and flashing sleds might an idea for some future date . Lights-Ice hotel ?

BTW, I am not certain if I can go to this event, and so if some one can lead the gathering of our MakeHartford (MH) makers or for extra credit even MAKE a sled/team with video for MH this would be excellent. Getting out and making a MH presence could be good to attract good makers to our group. It is early for us to do but starting would be good. Looking at what could be done by makers, in Boston AAsylym made music sculptures and a party for more than 700 people. When it snows, they party and create. They have enough to make a flash mob and to make all happen. Music , snow sculpture, and snowballs. Hartford is getting there.

Looking for a video seen w/ of the cool AAsylum sculptures to post
