BASIC LASER CUTTING/ENGRAVING OPERATIONS
Instructor: Jim Hatch
MakeHartford just got an amazing Legacy Laser 450 series, 60 watt engraver/cutter. As the name says this device can engrave and/or cut metals, plastics and wood.
DESCRIPTION: In this 2.5 hour class, you will learn to safely operate MakeHartford's Legacy Laser, a 60W laser cutter/engraver with the ability to cut and engrave a variety of materials including wood, acrylic, leather, paper, tile, stone and glass as well as etch some metals. Students will learn to use the laser's control software LaserCut to modify a model which you will cut and take home. You will also learn how to take a project you've made in your favorite design software (Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, Inkscape) and prepare it for cutting on the laser.
PRE-REQUISITES: None. No prior laser cutting or design experience is necessary to take this class.
OTHER: This class is required to be authorized to operate the laser. An exception to this may be made for individuals who have prior experience and can demonstrate to the instructor they have the knowledge to safely operate the Legacy Laser.
A laptop is useful, but not required for this class.
MATERIAL COST: There is no additional materials cost for this course
• What materials can be used with the Laser?
A partial list of materials includes: wood, cork, wood venier, Corin, plastics, Mylar, fiberglass, foam, Melamine, glass, marble, ceramic, cloth, pressboard, various metals and rubber. Naturally the Laser can work with some of these materials easier than with others, but if you think of all the things you have every wanted to mark, engrave or cut then this is the device you have been waiting for.
