What we're about

This Meetup group is for anyone who loves making and wants to learn about events and programs taking place in San Diego. The Central Library (https://www.opensourcemakerlabs.com) has an abundance of free maker resources. Fab Lab (http://fablabsd.org) has a tremendous community of makers. MakerPlace (http://makerplace.com), OSML (https://www.opensourcemakerlabs.com), and others have tools for serious makers. In addition there are regular maker events such as Maker Faire (http://sandiego.makerfaire.com), STEAM Maker Fest (http://www.sansmf.org), and others. Feel free to suggest others. We can only share what we know about and we learn about programs and events from the crowd ... that’s you!

[ONLINE] SDMG Monthly Meeting at meet.jit.si/sdmg

Online event

Come join San Diego Makers Guild, in our continuing series of monthly meetings in Central San Diego, {edit: now online at https://meet.jit.si/sdmg previously.... } kindly hosted by our friends at the new Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park. {Edit, thanks Comic-Con Museum! We look forward to coming back when all this is under control again} To support safety AND to allow far flung makers to attend from home, we will be converting to an online meeting. Please get used to using https://meet.jit.si/sdmg before the meeting date. It's easy, just hit the address in any modern browser, give it access to mic and cam, if you have them, and look around at the icons. If you don't have a web cam, you can still share your screen (icon in far lower left, pick which screen even if there is only one, and press "Share") . If you don't have a microphone or working headset, click the "i" in a circle on the lower right and you will find a dial in telephone number to call with your phone for audio access. Jitsi does a really good job with echo cancelation, but headsets are always better, and if you aren't talking press the mute button (bottom center, just left of the red "hang up" button) then press the space bar to talk. If you want to use your cell or tablet, there is an app. It works really well with just a little practice. At it is 100% FOSS so you can check the source code. They aren't doing anything bad, and gather no personal information. We will introduce ourselves, and share our current projects, then maybe {edit: chat for a while and plan for future opportunities to } build a “make and take” project. Sadly, you will have to buy your own cookies... .o( But... you can wear PJs! And no traffic!
