The Los Angeles Downtown Public Library is having their annual Mini Maker Faire on Dec 7, and we are taking the train up to attend. We always have a lot of fun on the train, at the faire, and in LA at the faire. It’s an adventure. And the faire is really quite good, with lots of makers tucked away in different parts of the library. The library building is also a historic landmark with a lot of history.

Update: At this time we will be taking the OC 661 train. THIS MAY CHANGE! Check the schedule:
https://www.metrolinktrains.com/schedules/?type=station&originId=144&destinationId=107&weekend=1

Please meet at the Oceanside Transit Center no later than 7:45 AM by the Mission Federal Credit Union ATM / South End ticket station at the transit center. Parking is free in the big structure next door. Train leaves at 8:15 so you want to make sure to have time to buy a train ticket. From experience, arrive early, bring both cash and a credit card. The stupid machines at the station often have issues, there are lines, and the next train isn’t until 11:24.

There are two locations for Metrolink ticket machines: One in the station itself, just across the covered walkway from the office, and one with the Coaster machines past the station near the passenger tunnel in front of the southern parking lot (always full). Those machines face the sun with no shade in the AM and sometimes malfunction. If you are in line and see there are others also going to the Faire, please consolidate funds and have one person buy multiple tickets.

The orange line operates from the far track, on Platform 2, so you have to go SE from the station along the near track, thru the underpass, and then up and back along the far track to the correct platform.

Cost: It’s $10 per person for the whole day! Even though you can by your ticket on the app, it would not give you access to the metro buses in LA so you’ll need to buy the actual ticket at the station if you would like to use the buses / metro without further charge. (it’s about 1.5 miles / 33 minutes to walk. Or take the Metro Silver to Grand / 5th and walk one block to the library, arriving at about 11am. )

Ticket for LA Maker Faire is free! You can register for a ticket here:

or you can sign up as part of our group:

We will get there a little after 10am. If you decide to drive, the address is:
630 W 5th Street, Los Angeles, CA.

There are several good places to eat, including some right next to the library.

The last train leaves Union station at 4:40pm. That's a 1.5 mile walk, about 33 minutes. The Red Line used to leave Pershing station at 4:25, but it no longer runs on weekend afternoons. The 78 or 71 bus leaves from Pershing at 4:07 and 4:02. Probably best to leave the Faire around 3:45 in any case.
