Based in Manchester and the North West of England, we are a group of active friends of all ages with a common interest in getting some fresh air whilst walking and hiking in the region. We are enthusiastic about seeing the surrounding areas of Manchester, usually involving the Peak District and Cheshire, occasionally visiting Yorkshire, North Wales and The Lake District.
Most of our walks are day-trips; and some further afield have stay overs like at a hostel or camping. We also hold social nights in pubs where we gather to swap stories, and we find this is a good place to introduce ourselves to new members.
We do not charge membership fees of any sort; membership is free and the meetup hosting fees are met by us by having an occasional voluntary collection in the region of £1.
It's the perfect way to meet people, enjoy a pub lunch and see the great outdoors! We go on walks of all levels of ability that we call easy, medium and hard and you're bound to find something you'll enjoy! You can attend as many or as few as you are comfortable with.
Feel free to join up and browse through our upcoming and past meetups, as well as the hundreds of photos our members have taken!! This is our main page and events are only here, but please also like our
Some things to note 1. We do this for fun because we love the outdoors and believe in helping each other to gain access to our countryside around Manchester. This means that we don't earn money from any of the activities; we only cover the costs of running the group!
2. We do not employ qualified guides, leaders or first aiders on any of our events. We are a group of friends who publish what we're doing on the internet, so that others can join in if they want to. Friends hosting walks assume no responsibility for attendees. Attendees are responsible for assessing their own risks, the safety of both themselves and their guests and the suitability of equipment used. All our events involve inherently dangerous activities.
4. We have been running since March 2010 as the 'Manchester Hiking & Cycling Club' but in May 2013 became 'Manchester Hiking' to better serve our growing member numbers. The 'Manchester Cycling' group was also created as a result to cater to Cyclists and MTBers; please take a look there as well
