Seven Days In the Art World

Our next selection is Seven Days in the Art World, by Sarah Thornton.  The book is currently selling on Amazon for $12.90.  Lighter than many of our previous readings, it will make good beach reading for the end of summer.

This group will continue to strike a balance between classical and contemporary and address topics that cover all ideas relevant to art history.  Seven Days in the Art World looks at some of the current forces which shape the work of artists at the beginning of the 21st Century.

We will choose our next selection at the meeting.

See you there!

It was great to see you all. The summer felt like a long break and I'm glad that we are back together. A hearty welcome to the new participants in the group!

I just sent some "discussion points" to structure and inspire our conversation about the book. Let me know if you did not receive it. We will have handouts for everyone at the meeting.

I am looking forward to seeing you all next week!

Thanks for letting me know, Pamela. We have met on some Saturdays and some Sundays. Our next venue may determine which day we pick in the future.

Hi Everyone, do you know that Kit is our new Book Club leader and we are looking for a new space for September? Does anyone have any help for Kit? Do you have connections with a gallery in downtown Manhattan that has: air conditioning, 12-25 chairs, and wouldn't mind hosting us once a month on Saturday from 12-1:30? It seems that a lot of posts that explained this transition only went to the people who attended the last meetup.

Let's talk about books that we want to read next.

Joey has recommended Jacques Barzun's The Use and Abuse of Art . He said, "Jacques Barzun's The Use and Abuse of Art, 150 pages. 6 classic lectures from 1973 that haven't aged and are worth reading and rereading. I don't agree with every sentence but hardly any don't deliver an insight. Lots of used copies are available from Amazon from $0.01 and up"

Anyone have a preference to read something else next?

Still looking for meeting space in Manhattan. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. We need a quiet cool room that can comfortably seat 12-25 people Saturday 12:00-1:30 approx. once a month.
