- Kirtan - The Beauty and Power of Sacred Sound
Kirtan is the practice of yogic chanting. "In yoga practice, mantra and kirtan (call-and-response devotional chanting) get short shrift in the West because they aren't well understood, thought they are an integral part of almost every Eastern spiritual practice. They are designed to provide access into the psyche while their underlying mythology helps us understand how our psychology affects daily life." ~ Alanna Kaivalya Yet even without any prior experience or any explanation at all, the participation in Kirtan is powerful in itself. Come and experience this beautiful, uplifting and joyous practice with Anna Leeming accompanied by Tanya Porter. April 26th from 7-9PM @ The Village Hive 55 Albert Street, Markham $20 per person at the door What to bring: come comfortably dressed, water bottle and indoor shoes or slippers. RSVP on our Facebook event page - https://www.facebook.com/events/794600410926775/?active_tab=about What to expect: 1. - Introduction to Shamanic Power Animal Retrieval
Introduction to Shamanic Power Animal Retrieval For those interested in shamanic healing and learning about your power animal, this month’s Women’s Wellness Circle is about Power Animal Retrieval. This wonderful introduction to Shamanic journeying, facilitated by Sue Burness, will safely guide participants through spoken word and drumming to meet their individual Power Animals. The practice of Shamanism can help to restore our wholeness by restoring personal power. March 22nd from 7-9PM @ The Village Hive 55 Albert Street, Markham $20 per person at the door Please RSVP on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/events/385528505580821/?active_tab=about What to bring: come comfortably dressed, water bottle and indoor shoes or slippers. What to expect: spiritual connection, guided visualization and rhythmic drumming What is Power Animal Retrieval? A Power Animal Retrieval is often the best place to start when beginning your Shamanic healing. It is a simple ceremony that connects us to helping spirits that show themselves in the form of animals. It is believed that we come into this life with Power Animals who act as guides, compassionate helpers and protectors. We often lose contact with them as we grow up. Our loss of imagination and dismissal of “magic” as a force in our lives causes us to sever our connections to the spiritual world and to our spirit helpers. The good news is that we can call them back! Each of us may have one or more “main” Power Animal. Others also come into our lives as needed, bringing particular gifts and qualities that would be helpful to us in our current circumstances. What Happens During a Power Animal Retrieval? Power Animal Retrieval with a group is a fun yet powerful experience. It is a wonderful introduction to Shamanic journeying, as participants are safely guided through spoken word and drumming, to meet their individual Power Animals. The ceremony begins with calling in helpful spirits, and explaining what it means to connect with them. Questions are always welcome during the introduction. Guided visualization and rhythmic drumming will help the group establish communication with their own Power Animals. Afterwards, participants are welcome to share their experience if they wish. People are very often surprised to discover the identity of their Special helpers! About Sue Sue Burness is a Shamanic Life Coach who believes in the power of deep and compassionate listening to support personal growth. She combines coaching and EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques, to assist others in moving stored harmful emotions from their bodies. Her passion for Shamanism led her to study with Contemporary Shamanic teacher Robin Rice from[masked], and from one of Robin’s apprentices. Then in 2015, guided to find a local teacher, she found Daniel Leonard. Daniel was taught by Sandra Ingerman (prolific author, teacher and visionary) who was taught by Michael Harner. With Daniel as her “human guide and teacher” she completed workshops in the “Introduction to Shamanic Journeying”, “PTSD for Energy Healers” and First Degree Reiki. In 2017 she graduated from Daniel’s One-year Shamanic Apprenticeship and is now his student in a Two-year advanced Shamanic program. Sue’s ultimate teachers are her Spirit helpers, those compassionate beings that support her work and well-being. The elements of Nature guide and nurture her. And so much of what she learns comes from listening to and watching her nine beautiful grand-childen. Sue loves to work with individuals and groups, to help people discover the “unseen” worlds and come home to themselves.
