Night photography on the Eastern Shore.

Night photography is a time to explore and experiment, to play and have fun. We've timed this workshop for the full moon, and moonlight is wonderful illumination for your night exposures. Even if it's cloudy, though, there are many other sources of illumination, such as the streetlight in the photo just above.

We'll start at sunset, because sunsets here are amazing. We'll then take you to several of our favorite spots on the east bank of the Honga River and on Tedious Creek. All locations are in Dorchester County on Maryland's Eastern Shore. You'll see a small fishing village that looks like it could be in Maine, marinas filled with working (watermen's) boats, abandoned buildings and boats, and an old church hall, among other sights. Most of the locations have beautiful views of the water.

Each location can accomodate several cars, and we are limiting the group to ten (10) people so we can move easily from point to point.

Some of the topics we'll cover:
- shooting in manual mode and in RAW
- photographing the moon
- long exposure photography
- setting the correct white balance
- using the histogram
- dealing with mixed light sources
- using a remote, or cable release, and mirror-up mode
- achieving accurate focus
- long exposure NR
- starbursts
- light painting

We understand that some of you will already be familiar with many of these subjects. We're here to assist you as much or as little as you desire.

And again, night photography is an opportunity to play and explore and to try new things with your camera. Note that the photos below were all taken at locations we'll be visiting.

The cost is $99. You aren't registered until you've paid.

1. Please pay first (as family or friend):
2. and then RSVP yes.

No refunds unless the event is cancelled by the organizers. If you've paid and can't make it, you can find someone to take your place and work out the payment with them. The only reason we'll cancel is if it is raining hard, in which case we'll reschedule the event and refund your money if you can't make the new date.

Please note the following:

- This is NOT a Milky Way workshop. The next Milky Way workshop is on Assateague Island on Sept. 8.

- You must have a camera that can shoot in manual mode

- Please bring a flashlight or headlamp with a "red light" or "dim" setting. You'll need it to see the controls on your camera.

- Waterproof shoes or boots will be helpful, particularly if it has rained recently.

- And, as always, be prepared for insects.
