Night photography on the Eastern Shore.

Full moon is on Wednesday, October 24. We won't meet until Saturday the 27th, so we'll be working with a waning gibbous moon.

October’s moon rises just after sunset and sets around sunrise, so this is the only night in the month when the Moon is in the sky all night long. The full moon this month is known as the Hunter's Moon, since it was the time to go hunting in preparation for winter.

We'll meet at 5:00 pm, so that you're ready for both sunset and moonrise. And we'll take you to some very cool locations - which include an amazing marina and abandoned houses - in the most quiet, remote little town you can imagine. Sunset will take place about 6:38 this evening.

Here are pictures of one of the sites. There are more pictures below.

We're here to assist you as little or as much as you'd like. Some of the topics we can help you with include --

- shooting in manual mode and in RAW
- photographing the moon - long exposure photography
- setting the correct white balance
- using the histogram
- dealing with mixed light sources
- using a remote, or cable release, and mirror-up mode
- achieving accurate focus
- long exposure NR
- starbursts
- light painting

The cost is $99. You aren't registered until you've paid. Please follow these simple steps:
1. If you're not a member of Maryland Nightscapers, please join.

2. Follow this link to pay (as family or friend):

3. RSVP yes (at the top of this page).

No refunds unless the event is cancelled by the organizers. If you've paid and can't make it, you can find someone to take your place and work out the payment with them. The only reason we'll cancel is if it's raining hard, in which case we'll reschedule the event and refund your money if you can't make the new date.

Please note the following:

- This is NOT a Milky Way workshop. The next Milky Way workshop will be in February 2019.

- Please bring a flashlight or headlamp with a "red light" or "dim" setting. You'll need it to see the controls on your camera.

- Waterproof shoes or boots will be helpful, particularly if it has rained recently.

Guest Policy
Spouses and other guests are welcome to attend and travel to the various locations, but they must be registered and paid workshop attendees. We think your guests will enjoy our workshops and will enjoy learning with us, even if they don't have much experience with photography.
