When entering be sure to look for the art work celebrating the Wright Brothers and their training of military pilots at the of College Park. The 5/10k trails walk through Northeast Branch trail and Town of College Park. The 10K trail also goes through the town of Riverdale Park, passing the Historic Riversdales Mansion and then along the Trolley Trail formally part of the B&O Railroad. Note: for wheelchairs and strollers all the trail is on paved paths or sidewalks. Every reasonable effort will be made to make this a safe, enjoyable, and memorable event. There will also be a 5k trail loop you can drive to that will go passed the Riversdale Mansion and along the Trolley Trail. If you are coming from the south on I-95, you will need to be in the right lane of the Ft. McHenry tunnel as exit 57 is shortly after the toll plaza. At the traffic light for Boston St, turn west toward downtown Baltimore. Start Times: 08:00 - 11:00; Finish NLT 2:00 Location: Rockburn Branch Park Start Point / Driving Directions: 6105 Rockburn Branch Park Road DIRECTIONS: To Rockburn Branch Park – West Area 6105 Rockburn Branch Park Road, Elkridge From Rte. 29, take Exit 22 Rt 100 east to Md. 103 exit. Go around the circle and cross over Rte. 100 –or- From I-95, take Exit 22 Rt100 W to Rt103 W, Meadowridge Rd -Then- Proceed through next circle. At the first signal light, make a right on Montgomery Rd. Proceed to signal light and make a left to remain on Montgomery Rd. Travel about a mile; Make a left onto Rockburn Branch Park Rd to end of road. Note: Rockburn Branch Park has two entrances. The West entrance is off Montgomery Rd. The trail for each event is mostly on natural park trails and road shoulders within Howard County Parks. Strollers will have difficulty with most trails. Start time: 9:30 am – 12:00 (noon); finish by 3 pm Trails : The 10k trail has both paved and natural surface sections. The natural surface section starts at the Croydon Creek Nature Center Trail Head and follows the trails along an abandoned section of Avery Road, into the forest, past an abandoned house foundation and cellar, and along the Croydon Creek to the dam. There are some short steep climbs along the creek. The walk then continues to and through the Glenview Mansion gardens and then past the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theater. The 5k trail bypasses both the Nature Center and Glenview Mansion. All trails return through Rockville neighborhoods and finish along the Rock Creek Park trail before returning to the start/finish. Seneca Valley Sugarloafers Volksmarch Club, Inc. (AVA 419), a member of the Maryland Volkssport Association. Sanctioned by : AVA: America’s Walking Club, a member of the International Volkssport Verband, to promote leisure sports in the interest of family health, recreation, fun, and companionship. Start/Finish : Patio between Urban Bar-B-Que and PB’s Coffee, Rock Creek Village Shopping Center, 5566 Norbeck Rd., (Rt. 28 and Bauer Drive) Rockville, MD 20853. Parking is available in and behind the shopping center.All trails start and finish with a short set of steps with poles that narrow the passageway. The passageway is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers unless they are lifted over the poles and down the steps. Walking sticks are recommended for the 10k trail. Conditions : Restrooms are available at Creek Nature Center. Pets are allowed, but must be leashed at all times during the walk. This walk will be held regardless of the weather, unless conditions cause the sponsors to close the trails for safety reasons. Water and candy will be available at the Start Point. Fee : The fee for IVV credit is $3.00. Children 12 and under may earn IVV credit for no charge at all events sponsored by the Seneca Valley Sugarloafers. IVV record books and New Walker Packets will be available for sale. You may walk for free without IVV credit. AVA Special Programs : Bridges, Little Free Libraries, Take a Walk in a City Park. Eligibility : All must register and sign a waiver of liability. Each participant must carry a start card throughout the walk. Please turn the card in at the end of your walk so we know that you are safely off the trail. An adult must accompany children under 12 throughout the entire walk. Parents of minor children must sign a waiver of liability for the children. Turn right onto Bauer Dr. Turn right into Rock Creek Village Center. The Patio is in the back right corner. FROM THE BELTWAY 495 : EXIT 31, Georgia Ave. (Rt. 97), North towards Wheaton. Drive Approximately 7 miles to Norbeck Rd. (Rt. 28 West). Turn left onto Norbeck Rd. and continue 2 miles. Turn left onto Bauer Dr. Turn right onto Rock Creek Village Center. The Patio is in the back right corner. Additional Parking : There is additional parking available behind the Patio. To access this parking bypass the first two entrances to Rock Creek Village Center and turn in at the rear of the Safeway. Follow the driveway past the back of the Safeway and then to the right. The Patio is at the next corner.
