Fall Foilage Ryde with Blue Knights MD III

Another opportunity to join me and mix it up with other bikes for the Blue Knights MD III Fall Foilage Run. This is an annual ryde which meets up at the Double T Diner in Ellicott City (US Route 40 West) (Note: Not Catonsville). Approximately a 110-mile ryde that heads out to the Catoctin Hills in the vicinity of Thurmont, also a ryde through the Battlefields at Gettysburg, also lunch and rest stops. A nice day and pretty scenery. We're watching the weather on this one. Wear your warm clothes ... It looks like it's gonna be Fall-cool! Kickstands up (okay ... parking brakes off) at 9:00am sharp, so be there at 8:45am. We're looking at lite attendance from the Chapter, so Spyders come on! :-)

Uhh... huh-huh ... It's spelled f-o-l-i-a-g-e. Glad we didn't have any English majors in the group ;-)

Nobody cares, Capt. It was a great ryde! Looking forward to our route in November. That will be fantastic as well!

My gratitude to the MD Blue Knights III for inviting us. That was a fun ryde. Again great roads and great people. That part of MD and PA is certainly beautiful. That is the most I have seen of Gettysburg Battle Fields and it made me want to go back and explore for a weekend sometime. How about those Spyders? They are something else!

It had been since I was a kid that I was on the battlefield roads in Gettysburg ; it was very nice to ride them as an adult. Sorry we couldn't stay longer, but we had previous plans for the evening. Have happy and safe holidays. We Look forward to riding with you next season!

Wendy, it was great great you all out with us today. If you can't make it to the meet and greet in November, please make sure you guys watch the forum for the "idea thread" for the scheduled rides in 2014. Your input is very valuable. If there is something you would like to do/see next season, this would be an opportunity to let the group know. Have a great winter, and see you next spring!! ;)

What a great day. Our group, again, sync'd nicely with the Blue Knights MD III group. We merged Spyders with cruisers through meshing road captains and sweeps from both our groups. Pete, as always, did a phenomenal job. We totalled 21 attendees between the two groups at its high point. The cold faded away as we rode through the beautiful scenery, while I was impressed with Jim Miller's choice of route, along 550 and Sabillasville Road, then to PA 16 and 116 to Gettysburg. Nice sweeps, while allowing all to enjoy the ride. Lunch in Taneytown was great at the 'Backyard BBQ.' Everyone was well fed, and yours truly hosted a 50/50 drawing that netted 66 bucks that will go to BK III Charities. Looks like in our group we also had a surprise nominee for BK membership, Herbert Brown, retired DC Police, so MSW contributed in more ways than one. Our group, between this ryde and last weeks participation in the Toy Run assures we are 'known' to the BK membership. We'll be welcomed back.

I'd also like to say it was good to see Wendy, Val and PJ again. We hope to see them either on Nov 16th (Michaux Forest Ryde) or that they'll consider attending our Meet n' Greet and 2014 planning meeting on Nov. 30th. :-)

Valerie will be joining us as well, so she will be Wendy's +1 :-)

Anyone up for meeting early and grabbing a bite to eat before the ride?

I'm gonna have all I can do to get Laura there for brake-off at 9am. :) She's not a morning person. Ha!

I'm going to try to be there just before 830am to grab a cuppa and marshall the Spyders in. I think we could have more MSW Spyders than BK members! Eegad! ;-)

Sounds like a fun ryde. A beautiful area and great people.

Hi Gang ... A note from one of our attendees caused me to re-look what I think may be the general route of this ryde and re-interpolate its distance. Originally cited as 85 miles, I believe this ryde will be more like[masked] miles, given from the start point to to the middle of the Catoctin hills is just short of 50 miles. We will also be skirting Gettysburg. Keep in mind that we (MSW) are not leading the ride. Our group is joining my Blue Knights Chapter where the ryde is being led by the President, Mr. Jim Miller. This is part of the fun of it. I'll be there with GPS and interesting routes back if needed. A little mystery is good!

Best bet -- come along and enjoy. :-)
