Come for a short talk by renowned dietitian Vesanto Melina on iron, followed by questions and discussion. The event is held at Vancouver Co-housing, an intentional co-housing community.
Bring some vegan snacks to share. Entrance: we ask for a loonie or twonie to cover Vancouver Cohousing's cost of hosting us (hot water, soap, TP etc.)
Take note: While we are big fans of the plant-based diet, everyone is welcome at our events, from omnivore to vegan.
Vesanto Melina, Registered Dietitian, is the lead author of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ position paper on vegetarian diets and an award winning author.
What to bring? Anything vegan you'd like to eat and share. If you are able to bring some high iron foods, you'll be perfectly in keeping with our theme! Examples: legumes (beans, peas, lentils...), dark green leafy vegetables like kale, vegetables and fruits like potatoes, asparagus, peas, snow peas, tomatoes, raisins, and dried apricots, as well as oatmeal, soymilk, seeds, and certain nuts (cashews, almonds).
Everyone from omnivore to vegan is welcome to attend but please make sure the snack you bring contains no animal products--that means no meat, dairy, whey, gelatin, eggs, and seafood--so that everyone can partake.
