Meet like-minded people interested in meditation near you! Learn how to meditate or deepen your current meditation practice. A trademark of the meditations we emphasize is the ease in which they can be used both “on the cushion” and in our daily lives.

Each meeting will include practical meditation, and a talk on how to reduce stress and other problems encountered in daily life and how to increase mental and physical well-being. There will also be plenty of time to discuss the ideas presented. Although the meditations and talks are based on Kadampa Buddhist philosophy, you don't need to be a Buddhist to enjoy this group or benefit from our meditations.

Columbia, SC 29169 $5 Our “Simply Meditate” class is a perfect opportunity to learn different meditations and the basics of a meditation practice. Each class includes two guided 15-minute meditations and instructions that can easily be integrated into daily life. These drop-in classes, suitable for beginners and experienced meditators alike, help us discover the profound benefits of engaging in meditation and enable us to develop a naturally peaceful, calm and happy mind. Our classes will closely mirror the meditations found on the following meditation CDs (available in our bookstore): Meditations for Relaxation The first is a basic breathing meditation that helps to disengage the mind from the busyness of everyday life and create a special feeling of inner peace. The second combines mindfulness of the breath with visualization, or creative imagination, and leads to a deep feeling of inner calm and purity. The third is a special breathing meditation that combines mindfulness of the breath with the recitation of mantra. Meditations for a Kind Heart The first is a meditation on cherishing others – thinking that others are important, and that their happiness and freedom are important. The second is a practical meditation on compassion – the sincere wish to protect others from suffering. The third is a practical meditation on love – the sincere wish to give happiness to others. Meditations for a Clear Mind The first meditation lays the foundation for meditating on the mind by helping to temporarily overcome physical appearances. The second introduces us to the clarity of our mind, and the third is a meditation on our root mind.

The class includes a relaxing guided meditation and short talk on how to maintain a peaceful mind. Each class is self contained and on a drop in basis, so there is no need to register in advance or attend the entire series. Chairs are provided and their are meditation cushions for those who wish to sit on the floor. About the Teacher Kelsang Jangchen is a Buddhist nun and the Resident Teacher at Kadampa Meditation Center South Carolina. She has been a student of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso for almost 20 years. Jangchen teaches with warmth and compassion, offering practical methods to help people experience more peace and happiness in their daily lives.
