Details

Qigong (pronounced 'chi gung') is an ancient Chinese healing art that develops the mastery of the cultivation and refinement of chi (life force energy), leading to profound healing, enlightenment, and full expression of life. Sunday classes will specifically focus on learning a long qigong form, The Hands of the Eighteen Luohan, as well as heart-centered breathing, qigong meditations, and other gentle moving forms that develop centeredness, increase energy, and strengthen and heal the whole being.

Learning of the Luohan form is progressive, and for this reason, Sunday classes are divided into Level 1 (for new students) from 12:30-1:45pm and Level 2 (graduates of Level 1) from 2-3:15pm. While regular participation in Sunday classes is encouraged to receive maximum benefit, you are always welcome to drop in on the dates that fit your schedule. (Please be sure to check the Meetup or Mayu Sanctuary calendars for exact dates as we occasionally take a Sunday off!).

Qigong movement involves gentle standing forms and movements. We focus on regulating the breath to calm the nervous system, quieting and focusing the mind, grounding and refining our energy, and connecting into our hearts. We occasionally do breath or meditation work in a seated or reclined position, and supplies are available at Mayu to support these postures. This class is beneficial to all experience, ability, and age levels, and is easily adaptable to any present health considerations. Dress comfortably and in layers for gentle exercise. We move on the floor in bare feet or socks. Feel free to bring water or anything else that makes you comfortable -- no other supplies are needed!

PLEASE NOTE: Level 2 is open only to students who have previously completed at least 20 Sunday qigong classes. Level 1 is open to all-levels. Please inquire at the number or email address below if you are uncertain about which class to attend.

Please enter Mayu through the front door. Remove your shoes and leave them near the door or on designated shoe racks. Personal items can be stored in the classroom with you during class.

Feel free to look around, then head down the hall to the large classroom space in the back. Here I will assist you in signing in and with payment. And feel free to help yourself along the way to tea or water!
