Rosengarten Book Group - Half of a Yellow Sun

The book we have selected for our next meeting is Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

A masterly, haunting novel from a writer heralded by The Washington Post Book World as “the 21st-century daughter of Chinua Achebe,” Half of a Yellow Sun re-creates a seminal moment in modern African history: Biafra’s impassioned struggle to establish an independent republic in Nigeria in the 1960s, and the chilling violence that followed.

We'll picnic at the Rosengarten. Generally you'll find us on the lawn, not too far from the restaurant. We normally bring some food and drinks to share. Bring a mat or a camping chair. Look for people with books in hand who are speaking English.

Please reply if you will read the book. If you cannot come to the discussion, you can give comments online. If the weather is bad, or if not enough can attend, we can change the date of the meeting.

Hi, Sept, 18 should also work for me. Seems to be an interesting biography. I organised the e-book version - if someone likes a copy let me know. About changing the heading: I guess you need to create a new "Upcoming Meetup" (see menu on the left) and then set the new headline for this event (Rosengarten Book Group: Wild by Cheryl Strayed). Cheers, Stephan

Our next book: Wild by Cheryl Strayed

How about the 18 September for our next meeting?
(If not good for the majority, then suggest after Hebst Ferien October 15 or 16th.) @Robert- Yes it is worthwhile reading Half of a Yellow Sun.
Do you know how to change the heading above from half of a yellow sun to Wild?

My two cents - I haven't been able to come for a while and won't be able to come again unless the meeting is after 15 September. No big deal - I will catch up with you guys one of these times!

Hello! I know this is an old event but I'm new(ish) to Bern and I would love to join an English speaking book club. I'm an American and have moved to Switzerland to be with my Swiss boyfriend. I would really love to be a part if your reading group! Can you tell me more about it? Thanks!

Hi Dave, thanks for the suggestions. Interesting choices.
Have you read either of the books? It's good if you have.
I'd suggest 10 or the 18 September for the next meeting.
From the two, I'd pick Wild as the next book.
I'm curious to hear from the other members.

I don't have a list but some of the books we have read are: night train to lisbon, cat's table, the sense of an ending, the alchemist, do androids dream of electric sheet, IQ84, books by Malcolm Gladwell, siddhartha, the hare with the amber eyes....
Dave just suggest 2 books we can decide on.

Hi Charlotte, please do come. We usually meet at the Rosengarten but I see that Bina has offered to have it in her home. Thanks Bina. Let's see how many people can make it and go from there. If it's a nice summer day it would be nice to be outdoors. I am still reading the book- I started so long ago that I've lost the momentum. It will be interesting to hear what other people have to say about the book.
