What we're about

This is a group for parents, single parents who want to improve their lives for themselves. This is an opportunity to reduce the time spent on gadgets and get out and about and enjoy all that our city (and beyond) has to offer. Some of the planned trips include visits to theme parks, sporting activities and events (basketball games, go-karting & ice skating), days trips (to the seaside and the countryside), visits to museums, exhibitions and the theatre and enjoying simple things such as a picnic and games in the park. Girls and boys are welcome (Maximum 2 children per adult)!
The aim of the group is to build bonds for children, so they grow within a caring and like-minded community developing long lasting friendships (Note. Parents must be present for the meetings with their children).
I am a single parent to an 12-year old girl and think it is important for her to be surrounded by kids in her age group to get expansive life experiences through this group, this is especially important being as she is an only child. I was very fortunate to have a very happy childhood surrounded by siblings and children in my neighbourhood doing simple things like playing in the park, going to the adventure playground, swimming and ice skating. However, things have changed a great deal since then. There are little or no opportunities to play out or even connect with neighbours and family members, especially with the reliance and dependence on mobile phones and gadgets nowadays, interaction and communication is almost non-existent. Family and friends are often too busy or have different priorities which is why I made the decision to do something about it and create a group where we can get together and enjoy different experiences and create memories with our children we can look back on and enjoy!
I am sure there are many other parents out there in the same position that find at times being a single parent at times can be lonely, challenging and stretching. I am hoping to change this and create a community/support network where parents can come together, share experiences, support each other and engage with like-minded people about experiences. Both myself and my daughter enjoy travelling, exploring and trying new experiences and activities and think it is important all kids are encouraged to do the same and embrace new changes whilst also having fun in a safe community.
I will be arranging trips and days out throughout the year (Any suggestions welcome)! If any of the above resonates with you then take the first step…to enjoying life as a family and trying something new.
