R's popularity has increased substantially in recent years. At this end-of-year meetup, Frank van Praag will demonstrate how your R code and libraries can reach many more users via Spotfire – a visual analytics development environment that encourages end-users to interact with their data. He will show how to write R code straight into your analysis, call R functions and libraries, feeding data to your R models and retrieving data for visual display and end-user interaction.Through Spotfire, R is now being rolled out to Australian desktops by the thousands, bringing the power of R to the fingertips of more than just R programmers and enthusiasts. Using Kaggle as an example, we will also look at saving and sharing your data analytics so that others can explore and interact with little, if any, IT effort. Frank has previously presented this talk to the Sydney R User Forum (SURF) and we are happy to offer it again at our Melbourne R Meetup.
Frank van Praag has spent the last eight years with TIBCO (think S and S-Plus) as a solution consultant to bring the power of visual analytics to fields including government, cyber security, clinical trials, cancer research, mining, oil & gas and many others. He has had an active interest in R since his company acquired Insightful some years ago. Prior to that he worked with Borland Software to help programmers develop better solutions, faster.
This meetup will be catered courtesy of TIBCO, and hosted by the York Butter Factory.
This will be the last meetup for 2013, so join your fellow MelbURNians over drinks and nibbles to celebrate the end of the year, and get some last-minute R tips and tricks to see you through the holiday period!
