• What we'll do
Following rural roads across the Latrobe Valley, we will climb into the Strzeleckis via Jumbuk and Jeeralang to the Grand Ridge Road. Following this classic touring road we will come to Balook, where we camp the night by the Guesthouse in their lovely gardens, with an indoor kitchen available. Next day we can explore the Tarra-Bulga National Park, before riding on along the Grand Ridge Rd to Carrajung, then after a stop at Mirabilia Castle, we ride down a very pretty backroad to Rosedale. Here we will have lunch before returning to Traralgon via Glengarry for the journey home.
Distance - 138 kms; Grade - Med-Hard. Gravel roads with some long climbs and steep descents, good fitness and riding skills expected.
Accomodation at Balook is going to be camping, though there are rooms available in the guesthouse http://www.tarra-bulga.com/ . Please let me know ASAP if you wish to book a room.
Due to trains replaced by buses this weekend, you will need to travel by car to Traralgon, leaving cars at Traralgon. It may be possible for people to car-pool.
Route details are here: https://www.bikemap.net/en/r/4286213/?created=1
Etiquette: Social pace. We wait for each other to regroup at key navigational points. No one is left behind with a puncture. On the day, if you cannot make the ride please change your RSVP.
Priority will be given to paid Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club members and then to Meetup members according to how many rides have been attended. To participate I must know you from previous rides. Please ensure that your bike is well maintained and in good condition.
You can also join the MBTC club at http://www.mbtc.org.au ... benefits include insurance and a large number of rides (the majority, actually) that don't appear on Meetup.
All non-club riders are riding at their own risk and the club does not take responsibility for any injuries or accidents you may have on any of our rides.
