Doing a rerun of this ride that Edmund ran:
Estimated distance 70 km including some gravel roads and rail trails
Meet Southern Cross railway station at 7am at the main entrance cnr Spencer and Collins
We will catch the 7.20 Bendigo service to Kyneton
We cycle from Kyneton station at 8:30am
We will cycle to Glenlyon general store via a quiet road that passes Lauriston reservoir
Late breakfast at glenlyon general store, which has good cakes.
A bit of a climb along little Hampton road through wombat state forest then descend the Loddon river road, looking down through old growth, smooth barked eucalypt forest to the head waters of the Loddon river
BYO refreshments for a break at Lyonville springs mineral springs picnic ground
Then a track that follows the former rail track to the radio springs hotel
A glass of locally brewed cider at the hotel then the Domino rail trail to late lunch at Redbeards
Then the quiet ashbourne rd to woodend
Car based option is possible, I recommend that you drive to Kyneton (then you can catch a train back from the finish at Woodend) if you wish to take that approach. There are trains every hour from Woodend.
