Date: Sun 1st March 2020
Time: 10:00 am
Place to Meet: Fed Square, opposite Flinders St Station, near the pedestrian crossing.
Ride details, fairly easy social ride - about 25 km to Williamstown or 35 km to Altona.
Route: We’ll go via the bike trail beside the light rail to Beacon Cove, then go along Sandridge Beach and Todd Road to Wesgate Park and the Westgate Punt ($5 including bike) across to Scienceworks.
Then downriver to Williamstown, where the Seaport Festival will be on, with many other activities (may be a bit crowded). We’ll limit ourselves to visiting the Seaworks Maritime Museum (optional - see photos) - another $5 entry. Oh - and morning tea.
OK to peel off from the ride here, if you want to join other festival activities.
We’ll continue along the Esplanade and Foreshore Trail around to Altona, aiming for lunch on the seafront or in the Logan Reserve. We can bring our picnic, buy fish & chips, etc.
This will be the end of the ‘official’ ride - Altona Station is nearby. But plenty of options if you want to ride further - down to Cheetham Wetlands/ Skeleton Creek, around Cherry Lake or back to the Williamstown Seaport Festival.
This ride is open to financial MBTC members, and Meetup visitors who have not yet completed three introductory rides.
Spare tube and a puncture kit
MYKI card, ATM card/cash, basic tools, rain gear, snacks, etc
picnic lunch (optional)
It's your responsibility to check the temperature and distance for the day and carry an appropriate amount of water. When riding outside suburbia remember that carrying too much water is better than not enough as the distances between water availability may vary greatly from the planned route due to road closures or other unforeseen circumstances.
Check your app for any changes two hours before a day ride, or two days before a multi day ride as the ride may be cancelled in the event of extreme weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
If you cannot make it to the ride please change your RSVP to 'NO' within a reasonable time.
Our club policy is that visitors may participate on three rides before making the decision to join our club for an annual fee of $25.
