Altona Dog Beach

I have picked 1pm as this will be low tide and provde lots of running around space.

https://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=P+A+Burns+Reserve,+Altona+VIC+3018,+Australia&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=34.671324,84.814453&vpsrc=6&t=h&ie=UTF8&hq=P+A+Burns+Reserve,+Altona+VIC+3018,+Australia&ll=-37.864758,144.844952&spn=0.033745,0.082827&z=

Drive down Millers Road, turn left at Civic Parade, cross railway tracks, turn left onto Altona Road, cross canal, Past Sports Club then park.

Beach is between PA Reserve and Sports Club.

BYO drinks. There is no suitable dog friendly place within walking distance.

You may enjoy splashing in the water with your dogs so you may need a towel!

Caution!! The beach is "off lead" not the park. So keep the dogs on the lead till you get to the beach.

This was fantastic. Maybe in early spring when snakes aren't around we can hit the two picnic tables up on the grassland opposite the beach (if u stand with the beach behind you it's the right hand side, there's a coupla tables near the old Pines Scout camp), that would be awesome. We had a ball, thanks Dave, I feel like I've met some new friends, I really need it, because looking after the kid and the nutty nanna alone can take its toll! Dogs had a ball! All twitchy and growly in their sleep last nite! Altona Dog Beach is brilliant.

If it's hot, do keep them on lead till beach cos there are a lot of snakes that way, try to keep them from sniffing round the scrub/bushes. But when you are on the beach, well, low tide, I'll probably get soaked cos I'll swim in anything (and it's quite a way out to get to a good depth, but the dogs LOVE it!) Just sayin.....

Hopefully I will make it in time, but I will be attending the protest rally in the morning at the Lost Dogs Home (against their high euthanasia and low adoption rates) which might go on for a while. If anyone else wants to attend the rally, info is here - http://www.facebook.com/events/435171869891244/

So those b....rds are still doing that Karyn. I would love to go but I have to care for a ten year old who would be devastated. Do you know, I kept a newspaper article from probably 10 yrs ago now, of the Lost Dogs Home and their antics. Even to the point where they failed to check for a chip in a dog that went missing from its owner, and put it down, the $#^@*@(s. I HATE them. They should be closed, all their $ and charity earnings should be passed on to Lort Smith and the no kill shelter at Geelong and the one in the East that is also no kill, and the Lost Dogs Home and, is it Ian Smith or someone(?) , well, THEY should be euthanased. I loathe that place. Awful. And whenever I've been there, reception have been disgraceful; rude, distant and totally nonchalant.

Gus and I are so sorry but with illness in the human family we unfortunately won't make it tomorrow. We hope you meet you all at the next walk. Have fun and run and sniff and wag bottoms all day long. That for the humans too of course. Enjoy your day. Julie and Gus

Hi Boris is just beside himself in anticipation of meeting you all at the beach on Sunday. He wants to be sure that I know how you all know each other, apart from having dogs , that is.
Is there a definite place to meet?

OH JUST ONE MORE THING: If anyone has any kids, my daughter has just asked me "what am I going to do, they'll all be 'old'", feel free to bring them. My daughter is ten years old and being a single child, would LOVE some other kids' company! Just a thought....thank you. Looking forward to meeting you all. Don't worry about Smudge, we found him in a box outside Aldi, he is very small and has big man syndrome, all bark and excitement (only 1 yr old) but never ever bite, my dogs are stupidly friendly. God help us if we're ever burgled!

There's a seat overlooking beach and you sit anywhere, and there IS a water bowl for dogs attached to local bubbler/drinking fountain.
On Sunday mornings before 11 a.m. the sports club right next door is open for breakfast, and dogs can be roped out back where there are some tables,
but you need to take them round back outside area to tie them before going in for brekky - and being Altona they're reasonably priced brekkies. I'll shut up now. I am sure you'll know who I am, new (fat) member with kid and three silly little but v. friendly dogs.

Thanx for mentioning the water bowl/bubbler thingy, should have mentioned it myself. Didn't know about the breakast bit either. To prevent confusion I'll remind that this time around we are meeting at 1pm!!!!! You don't need to shut up, yours is a good contribution. I'll know who you are, new (nice smile) member with kid and three DOGGIES!!!

Right next to the beach (I go there all the time) is this gorgeous walk around about 3 Km in a loop back to entrance to beach, on the eastern side. It goes thru scrub and wetlands. Dogs are off leash but safer to be on (possibility of snakes, but the council does mow back about 1 metre from the path). I am sure I already know some of you!

Sounds interesting! We just moved to Point cook recently and i haven been able to locate any dog off-leash parks for Whiskey (golden retriever) to run and play with other dogs unlike at our old home at malvern east.
