In today's world, complex is the new normal. We used to behave as if the world was orderly and predictable. and complexity suddenly popped up to challenge our established practices. It has become increasingly clear that complexity is the normal state of affairs in any human system and order is only ever temporary. Human systems are dynamic and ever changing, with many potential connections between the stakeholders whose interests are in a constant state of flux.

It is impossible to know and understand everything that is happening at one time and understanding developed now will not necessarily be relevant tomorrow. However action still needs to be taken, improvements made and expenditure justified.

So how do we make sense of multiple fluid perspectives and translate these into knowledge for action?

Your facilitators for this Meetup, Laurel Sutton and Steve Grey, will guide you in a highly interactive session to explore the notion of complexity and how you might apply the Cynefin framework (a Cognitive Edge tool) for "sensemaking" and taking action.

About your facilitators:

Laurel Sutton, a member of the core team of Complexability (, has a background as a mental health clinician and manager, and as a cultural change agent with Victoria Police and across the Victorian Public Service. She now has her own company Creative Cognicion and is a core member of Complexability working with complex issues and impact evaluation.

Steve Grey of Broadleaf, is an associate of Complexability. Steve has decades of experience in many aspects of organisational and project risk management, which he has combined with a study of complexity science for the past five years.
