I made a post on our website about the first class. Check it out! http://melbournemakerspace.org/2014/10/arduino-classes-great-start/

Very good first class. I was able to get up and running fairly quickly. Can't wait until I can do some of the things I saw the Arduino can do. I remembered back why I got into technology. I got the same thrill when I got a machine to do what I told it to do. Just like 32 years ago with my first language. Good job Makerspace.

This is what the makerspace is all about! I remember the first time I got an arduino up and working too. Like Tony said, since I'm a software guy I've never ventured in the "real world". So as soon as I had a light that lit up whenever someone wrote "!alert" in a certain IRC chatroom I was hooked. I'm also looking forward to the next classes.

For anyone who missed it today you can still make the 'Make-up Monday' session (which we will hold every following Monday at 7 PM); also let me know if I still owe you a kit or a book, and I will get them ordered ASAP! Thanks everybody!

      No, thank you!

Great opening class. Lots of very helpful teachers AND students.

  • Adam

Do you have room for 1 more and is a kit available?

    October 2, 2014

    • Joshua P.

You can have mine if we don't have enough. I can order mine later.

      October 2, 2014

    • James M. D.

We will find a way to accommodate everybody; will do some shuffling and a quick reorder once our headcount is confirmed. good to have you on board!

  • deb v.

Do you have any extra kits? I'm not sure if you ordered one for me.

    September 30, 2014

    • Mike A.

James with so many scheduled to attend I guess my original request for two kits is out of the question now. Also I seem to have lost my hangouts link to the maker space chat

      October 2, 2014

    • James M. D.

We can get you set up again Saturday on the hangout; if we have several people show up who did not RSVP, then I will place an immediate order for more kits; if it's OK I'll get your second kit to you in about 2 weeks. (Good 'problem' to have!)

Ready? If you can, please download the Arduino IDE before class; if you have any trouble; we will work through it in class. http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

    September 25, 2014

    • James M. D.

No, that should do it. Thanks

      September 26, 2014

    • Joshua P.

Also note that we do have a few extra PCs and laptops to go through the work during class so you only need to bring your laptop if you want to continue the projects at home, etc.

Thanks for offering the Arduino class; I'm excited and can't wait to start. James' original post asked for people to sign up and indicate whether or not we want the kits. I haven't found where to do this....but YES, I'll buy a kit each week.

This is the place! Just click the upper right corner of this page where it says in red "Join and RSVP"; good to have you!

    Just RSVP'ed 1 kit please

    September 6, 2014

  • Will T.

Ok, now I,m confused. Just to be sure. If I pay the 15 a class. At the end I will have a complete kit? One of the reasons I wanted to take the class, other than learning what to do, is the parts needed. I goggled a lot of sites and don't want to buy what I don't need. Let me know either way. If it is not going to be included, please give me a parts list and web sites. I am also trying to get people from work here to attend.

    Thanks

    • Mike A.

I think, if done like in the past, Each kit will show up for the week its needed. For a price of $15.

      August 28, 2014

    • James M. D.

Right; we will just collect $15 each class

      August 28, 2014

  • Nathan R.

I'm in to buy 1 complete kit

    August 28, 2014

  • John G.

I plan to get 1 kit for each class.

    August 28, 2014

  • James M. D.

We are not charging for the instruction; 100% of the $15 kits goes back into each participant's hands. We will meet about every 2 weeks (the exact schedule is on the intro page).

    August 26, 2014

  • James M. D.

The Workshops are open to the general public, ages 14 to 99.5; (membership not required) as long as people RSVP early, we can get more than the original 20 kits in...we might just need a bigger space! I ma really looking forward to this!

    August 26, 2014

  • Donald

Can non members attend? And if so is there a cost?

    August 25, 2014

    • Mike A.

There are "kits" of parts (15.00/class) that will total[masked] by the end of class. OR , I'm sure you can share with another attendee - I'm always willing to do so.

      August 26, 2014

    • Joshua P.

That's right. The kits are optional and you only have to pay for them if you want to buy them and take them home to make your own projects. There will be some there to actually learn with for free and I'm sure others will share theirs during class.

      August 26, 2014

  • Mike A.

Thanks James - for the rest of you here is his workup of the workshop website:

2 Kits for me too! But with only 20 initial kits, if the class size exceeds 16 or so I'll settle for just one - grin

    August 26, 2014

  • tigehwolf

    1 kit for me!

    August 25, 2014

I am interested in 1 kit.

I am interested in 2 kits also..
