Melbourne Open GIS April 2013 Meetup

Melbourne Open GIS is on again at 6pm on Wednesday the 17th April at the OpenHub.

Melbourne Open GIS is a forum to discuss open technology, standards and interoperability in GIS. Our meetings bring together professionals from geospatial and other disciplines in a casual environment for some presentations, informal discussions, socialising and some drinks supplied by our meeting sponsors.

This meetup’s presentations:

  • Craig Molyneux (Spatial Vision)
  • Nathan Woodrow (QLD, Digital Mapping Solutions)
  • Craig Butt (The Age)
  • and more...

If you've got something you’d like to show to the group in under five minutes, contact a group organiser to request a presentation slot.

Our new five-minute presentation format from our last meetup was well received, so we'll continue with that - five minutes presentation, plus five minutes Q&A. This format makes for more enjoyable evening, with enough time for a variety of content, reduce the need for speakers to prepare elaborate presentations, and finish in time to deliver us all to the pub for a meal afterwards.

Our sponsors will provide a mixture of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

This meetup’s sponsors (so far):

  • Geoplex
  • Groundtruth
  • OpenHub

We are seeking additional sponsors. Please contact a group organiser to express your interest and get your business’s name added to the event publicity, and don’t forget to bring along your slab. (Half-slab sponsorships are available to government and non-commercial entities.)

Details:

  • Who can attend: anyone (limited to the first 50 to RSVP)
  • RSVP: required, via Meetup
  • Time:  arrive at 6:00pm for drinks and networking before the presentations commence at 6:30pm
  • Twitter Hashtag: #MelbOpenGIS
  • Parking info: http://bit.ly/YuOIEj

Marco, the links to the server - and TileMill projects - are behind a username and password, so unfortunately I can't give you the links. Instead, I've created a github page with the TileMill projects I've created and am happy to share the contents for others to use. You can access the Melbourne Street Art map here https://github.com/cartdeco/Melb_Street_Art

Yeah, what's up with that? In my experience geography and cartography aren't so gender-segregated.

Who was the person At the meetup who talked about looking for collaboration partners? Depending on the level of skills desired, I might be interested in finding out more about what they were trying to achieve.

Hi David, that was John Barratt (http://www.meetup.com...) of trendsmap.com. His contact details are at the trendsmap website. I may have been talking about partnering with other companies, but you can see if he's interested. All the best, Simon
