An afternoon of deep chanting from both the Yoga and Buddhist traditions with fantastic musicans in Balaclava. We warmly invite you to join us for chanting at our monthly get-togethers. We chant simply because we love to. The chants combine deep skill and craft
with raw heart-felt devotion. We have been leading chants regularly for a total of 50 years between us. We do not subscribe to any tradition while remaining deeply respectful of all.
This is an inclusive practice. Everybody is welcome! Chanting is a quick and joyful way to quieten the mind and drop deeply into the heart space.
Here is a short video of the classic Jaya jaya shiva shambo which is chanted in many yoga traditions throughout the world
About the musicians
Harbant Gill – Harb, by day a journalist, is also a musician who has been playing the harmonium and leading chants for 17 years as part of the dogma-free spiritual journey she is deeply committed to. She is also a former head of the Siddha Yoga music department and a lover of traditional chanting as practised by the wise masters.
Philip Gunter - Phil, who began meditating at 17 has been leading chants as a merdang player and percussionist for nearly 20 years. He is also a professional oud player, and has been recording music for the past 17 years as a solo artist and an ensemble member. Phil is one of the in-demand drummers for Kirtan in Melbourne and has a sensitivity and groove that is truly sublime.
Arjuna Roberts - I am director of Zen Yoga Central studio (www.zenyogacentral.com.au (http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.zenyogacentral.com.au&h=UAQFbok7n&s=1)) where I teach yoga and Mondo Zen meditation and I'm also a jazz musician having played piano now for over 30 years. I LOVE combining the practise of meditation with music through the vehicle of Kirtan and I'm thrilled to be collaborating with Harb & Phil with this offering.
