Big Hill Pond 9am - carpool departs arlington at 7am

  • This location is shown only to members

  • Plan on hiking 6-8 miles with some hills.  If you meet us at the park, meet at the park office at 9am.  Bring water/snacks/lunch/sunscreen/bugspray.  We might run into our backpacking buddies somewhere along the way...

It takes about 1.5 hr to get there from the G-town/Collierville area.  I would say plan on 2 hours from the downtown or midtown area just in case.  It doesn't seem to matter, time wise, whether you take Highway 57 all the way out or Highway 72 then come back north.  Watch your speed on 57 as the town sheriffs patrol it heavily.

This has more elevation change than we are used to on our local hikes but nothing awful and there is plenty of room to take breaks up or down.

If you have hiking boots I would recommend wearing them but these trails are not too rugged so tennis shoes/trail runners will be okay.  Plan on getting your shoes muddy at some point, but you should not need to do any water crossings.  The route is pretty heavily treed but there will be some short sections in the sun so bring a hat or sun protection if necessary.  Hopefully the park office will be open for a bathroom break before starting the hike.

I looking for a ride . . . I live 2 blocks off Poplar. In Germantown going East on Poplar the first left past St. Georges Church/school is Brachton. That is where I live.
