Hatchie River 11am

It's a beautiful day so i'm gonna go up to the Hatchie River NWR at 11am and wander around and do some trail mnt/parking lot cleanup.  Will probably explore some of the lakes on the other side of 76, but meet at the visitor's center.  Bring binocs and cameras (not to mention garbage bags and gloves for the cleanup...

we can go by THE MINDFIELD if you like - and/or catch a bite of lunch

we were out about 4 hours starting at ONeil lake where we saw lots of Purple Martens at the houses, coots on the water, three egrets in the grasses, several blue herons.. Then we hiked down Powell Rd to Hart lakes where we saw lots more herons (unless we just kept forcing the same few down the road), there was one copperhead in the middle of the road, a cottonmouth near the pond edge and four mud snakes??? (greyish black with pinkish orange belly). All the snakes were very lethargic and thereby tempting to pickup, lol. There was an obvious lack of wildflowers and it seemed that the trees were behind in budding out compared to other areas we have been to in the past few weeks. Found a few animal tracks in the mud and saw a variety of birds in the trees (woodpeckers, etc)
