Planning Meetup

First up on the agenda is lining up sponsors. Next will be trip/activity planning. I am flexible on the day we meet. I just wanted to get something on the calendar and determine folks interest.

Chuck, let's oh ahead and take this conversation offline, since it's not really Germaine to this meetup. I'll shoot you an email.

not sure if i can make Wed - but go ahead and change it - i know Gavin was really interested in getting sponsors. I looked into getting sponsors back when Eddie was running the group and there are some legal requirements. If sponsorships (and all other sources of reveune/donations/fees/etc) exceed $600 in value, you (who ever the check is made out to) have to report it as personal income unless you become a non-profit. If you get a check made out to MOAMeetup you will not be able to cash it unless you open a bank account in that name (form a business or non-profit) or declare it dba (doing business as which makes you the taxable entity). The sponsoring org has to report it to the IRS/State and issue a 1099 if over $600 and most will not give to you unless you are a non-profit. And be prepared to TRUE attendance data/etc. My main take-away from research was to keep everything small (under $600). We need to hunt down our CPA/attorney members and get them involved.

Thanks, Howard. As always, your advice is always well researched, and helpful!

MEETUP is required to keep track of monies handled via their system and have to make it available to the IRS if asked. MEETUP will not comment on such issues and will not give legal advice, but read...

I have karate every Thursday with my kids. Would Wednesday work? That's consistently my most open day.
