What we're about
“If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. If you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”
-Aboriginal activists group, Queensland, 1970s and Lilla Watson
We are men who take action to lift up women's movements for equity.
All of us, including men, will rejoice when we are freed from the burden of physical, psychological, and cultural violence perpetrated by men.
Our world will thrive in ways we can barely imagine when we build communities through love, empathy, vulnerability, dialogue, healing, and resilience.
Regular activities we could do:
Large, public dialogues
Web resource publication
Outings or retreats
Potlucks and picnics
In addition to this introspective/observational work, we must engage in community-facing work. For example:
Attend upcoming events
Volunteer for other groups
Build capacity for organizations
Reach out to the community
Create a toolkit for men not in our group
Support proposed legislation/policies
Challenge ourselves as a team to undertake personal goals
Develop a long term project
Create a performance or art piece
Produce media or video
Write blogs and analysis
Host social events
Reclaim public space through street action
Share stories or poems
Everything, including our meetup name, description, and activities, is up to members to decide. We’ll collectively come up with ground rules that will be responsive to the changing needs of our group. In addition to being accountable to ourselves, each other, and the values of the group, we will continuously seek suggestions from the community about how to improve our strategy.
