What we're about

This is a Zoom-only group for a new speculative fiction magazine, MetaStellar. We meet every Sunday for an hour to discuss magazine design, editorial content, workflow, marketing, and more.

We formally launched in September 2020. Since then we've had over 15,000 page views, more than 500 story submissions, published more than 50 authors, and are now in the process of launching a YouTube video channel for author interviews and discussions about speculative fiction-related topics.

We're looking for volunteers to help with copyediting, art, social media promotion, and judging, as well as people to write columns, reviews, and essays.

We are also still recruiting volunteers for our editorial board.

Members of the editorial board help set the direction of the publication.

About the organizer: In my two-decade-plus career I've been an award-winning technology and business journalist, foreign bureau chief, and newspaper and magazine editor. I have run or helped run a variety of writers' groups, professional organizations, MasterMind groups, and support groups. You can find out more about the old me here: https://www.mariakorolov.com/

But I'm currently transitioning away from being a full-time tech journalist to being a full-time sci-fi writer, so the new me is going to be something completely different. :-)

MetaStellar editorial meeting

Online event

This meeting has been permanently moved to early Sunday afternoons because Zoom is really bad during the week day -- possibly because of all the school and work meetings going on.

We will be discussing editorial issues, story budgets, the YouTube show, the submissions process, how much money we have to pay for fiction, contests, and all that jazz.

Members of the public are welcome to stop by -- just sign up first via this MeetUp group and introduce yourself. We're always looking for people interested in speculative fiction to serve on our editorial board, or to contribute content.
