This event will be Livestreamed here: https://livestream.com/accounts/23925505/events/8709439 Check out New York Python's Lighting Talk event! Do you want to start a Python Lighting Talks event in your area? Contact Metis' National Data Science Evangelist and Event Manager Nathan Vermeiren at [masked] ⚡⚡What is a Lightning Talk? ⚡⚡ A lightning talk... • ... is a 5-minute talk on any topic, technical or not • ... is often about something cool you just learned or some open source software you wrote. • ... can have slides but it's not required • ... doesn't need to be prepared, but could be • ... can be given by ANYONE, even someone totally new to Python! First-timers and first-time speakers are always welcome. Multiple talks per person are allowed (just make sure everyone else has a chance first!) Please no marketing pitches. Python is an in-demand language in the industry and is required for most data science positions. It's a flexible language, very easy to use with different packages. This course is for absolute beginners looking for an introduction to the basic Python programming and mathematical principles essential to learn as a first step toward developing data science skills or a new career in the field. We will cover: Introduction to programming in Python Common Python libraries: NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib Foundations of linear algebra Foundations of calculus Foundations of probability Foundation of statistics Course details: July 8th to August 15th Mondays and Thursdays 6:30 - 9:30PM CST Sergey Fogelson is the Vice President of Analytics and Measurement Sciences at Viacom. He began his career as an academic at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, where he researched the neural bases of visual category learning and obtained his Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience. After leaving academia, Sergey got into the rapidly growing startup scene in the NYC metro area, where he has worked as a data scientist in alternative energy analytics, digital advertising, cybersecurity, finance, and media. He is heavily involved in the NYC-area teaching community and has taught courses at various bootcamps, and has been a volunteer teacher in computer science through TEALSK12. When Sergey is not working or teaching, he is probably hiking. (He thru-hiked the Appalachian trail before graduate school).
