Garrett gets most excited about approaching data problems from a people-first perspective – employing empathy for the end user and using what we know or can learn about complex systems to drive optimal experiences and outcomes.
In his current role as Director of Data Science at StockTwits, Garrett leads efforts to use data science and machine learning to understand the network’s social dynamics and develop research and discovery tools that are used by over one million investors. A self-proclaimed “recovering actuary”, he started his career at Xerox, building probabilistic life contingency models for healthcare and retirement plans, designing liability driven asset management strategies and using Monte Carlo techniques to value executive option plans. He holds a BA in Mathematics from the The College of New Jersey and is currently working towards his MS in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is also an alumni of the Metis Data Science Bootcamp. When not working Garrett enjoys playing basketball, going to the gym, keeping up with tech news and working through MOOCs to stay on top of the latest development in AI.
