2013 Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade

Okay kids it's time to get fabulous again!

The 2013 Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade is happening soon. The DFW Coalition of Reason, the Metroplex Atheists, the Fellowship of Freethough and a whole mess of other non-religious organizations want YOU to participate!

For detailed event information along with maps and other things you can print out and take with you, have a look at our event website:

The theme this year is "Deep in the Heart of Pride", so dig out your boots and cowboy hats! The parade will start at 2:00 PM on September 15th of 2013. Here's a list of things you will need to know:

-Park at the Market Center DART Station. Buy a transit ticket and leave the receipt on your dashboard.
-Bring water, sunscreen, and your own food. We might have a little bit of water, but we will not be providing lunch or dinner.
-Walk to the staging area at the intersection of Cedar Springs and Douglas Avenue.
-Don't talk to protestors, do not throw things, do not swear or make obscene gestures, and do not take your clothes off.
-Stand on the sidewalk to the north of North Hall Street and to the east of Turtle Creek Blvd and wait for the shuttle
-If you have any other questions or need my phone number, send me a Facebook message or email me at [masked]
-If you've never met me before and want to find me on parade day, look for the 7' tall rainbow drag queen that is stomping around in the staging area.

Let's get fabulous, people!

I know and that's why I am bringing it up now. I can most likely recruit some folks to do some long-range planning and work on it from the Denton Atheist I co-founded and Wise Free Thinkers & Skeptics I founded here in Decatur; I'll raise the subject and see what I get. In the meantime, can you advise me on what I need to do with the parade organizers? I just think it would be a lot more classy.

We have talked about a float before but it is a lot of work and we are already spread very thin. This type of project usually ends up in the lap of one or two people but we can discuss it in our business meetings and see what happens.

Great Parade! Thanks for all who put this together. Do we dare have a float next year? My BFF Nolan Warner has volunteered the trailer and tow vehicle, as he has before, and I'll work my ass off getting it decorated; however, as I'll be a 70-y-o then I'll need a little (ha) assistance.

We had lunch, and arrived a little late to get to the assembly area, so we just waited for the Metroplex Banner to appear at the intersection and climbed aboard, Nolan, Susan, Kimber, Jerry and yours truly. Susan from Fort Worth and the rest of us from Wise County; walked a lot, had a ball. Already looking forward to next September!

"Cowboy" boots are made for hanging in a stirrup and being seen in cowboy clubs, not for walking, especially if there's a pair of spurs included.

I'll be wearing my comfy New Balance walking shoes. I made the mistake of wearing boots in the parade three years ago and stopped that madness immediately.

Dem boots ain't made for walking.

    Cowboy hat? Yes.
    Cowboy boots? No.

I'll be wearing my comfy sandals as I always do. :-)
