Colin Sewards Annual Solstice Celebration

  • to
  • Mike Lewis Park Pavilion

1836 Frank Drive, Grand Prairie, TX (map)

It will be held at the same place as last summer's picnic.  It has picnic tables, a BBQ grill, playground, pond with fishing pier, 1/2 basketball court, 8 horse shoe pits, exercise and fitness trail, a lighted sand volleyball court and picnic sites.

There is no electricity or water at the site.

Metroplex Atheists will be providing a smoked turkey and a smoked ham.  Please bring a side dish for yourself and to share with others.  Also please bring any drinks you want and ice.  Alcoholic beverages are prohibited, as in some of our previous sites, so if you choose to imbibe it must be concealed.

As usual we will be playing "Dirty Santa" (Chinese gift exchange) so if you want participate bring a wrapped gift.  We will have separate adult and children's versions so if your kids want to play they should also bring a child's gift.  We are suggesting a limit of $10.00 for the gifts.

We will be doing something new this year, we're going to have a silent auction.  We are asking that people donate an item or items that they no longer need or want to the auction.  Please bring items that are of value and not junk you just want to get rid of.  All items will be auctioned off and the proceeds will (perhaps) pay the cost of the party.

Obviously we're hoping for nice weather.  If it's cold I'm going to bring a couple of propane heaters.  If someone wants to bring something like that to keep people warm, that would be great.

We are looking for a place to have an "after party" party.  If we find a place it will be posted on Meetup.

Not at all! Though we'll be providing a turkey, the sides are potluck and it's BYOB. We do hope you bring something for the White Elephant gift exchange and/or the silent auction! And, of course, we have a couple more Wednesday Socials before the big party if you'd like to meet some of us before hand! Looking forward to meeting you!

What sorts of gifts are acceptable for the exchange? Is it a White Elephant gift exchange?

It sort of is - any religious-mocking or funny stuff (new or used) and wine and liquor are always good gifts. I have an Atheist's Bible and other books gotten at American Atheists convention that I might bring.
