I do have kids and essentially we chain and cage them for their own good as we do with our beloved pets. We fence our yards so they don't run into the street, we fence our pools so they don't drown, and we tie them down in their car seats so they don't fly through the window. With this in mind, I believe that caging animals is not ideal. Just exploring thought further. Plus, I want to pet a tiger cub.
I just moved here so will not recognize anyone from the group. If you will still have me after my Devil’s Advocate comments, how can I find the group?

I cannot compare children to animals - yet, we do put criminals in jail to protect society, just as we cage certain endangered species to protect them from extinction. We might never agree on this subject, however, I can feel that you have the same love for animals that I do - and I am happy for that!

A human being is a part of the whole, called by us the “Universe,” a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security. —Albert Einstein (1879–1955)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this subject with me (us), Soraya. Please forgive me if I retain a different perspective on the matter. All animals should be protected but not enslaved and caged, just as we would not find it of merit to put our children in cages for their "own good". We have the means to do them justice in the face of the dangers they face from human beings but lack the collective wisdom and will to accomplish this aim.

Stefano - unfortunately, in order for us to preserve these animals for our future generation to enjoy and to ensure that these animals are safe, we have to have them caged - until the date and time humans learn that by killing them and selling their meat or skin - we are all endangering our own future!

An Earth Day event at Pinecrest Gardens is appealing to me, however, a chained tiger, pleases me poorly and seems in contradiction to true Earth Day values. Animals should be free and be left to roam in what little remains of the wild.
