• Parallels between the rise of the Internet & Blockchain tech + Totle

Join us Wednesday, May 1st at the SPARK East Innovation Center in downtown Ypsi to connect with the Ethereum community, network with free pizza and refreshments, hear from two fantastic speakers and learn about blockchain technology! All the Details: Presentation #1: Neil Kane, Tech entrepreneur & Director of Undergraduate Entrepreneurship at MSU The rise in popularity and adoption of blockchain follows a very similar path to the rise of the Internet in the late 1990s. Then, as now, the technology was perceived to be immature, insecure and non-scalable. Eventually those problems and perceptions went away. Will the same thing happen to blockchain? In this discussion, Neil Kane, who was a business development manager in the Internet customer unit for Microsoft in the late 1990s, will share his perspective of how that era parallels what is happening today. Speaker Bio: A leading authority on technology commercialization, entrepreneurship and innovation, Neil D. Kane is the Director of Undergraduate Entrepreneurship at Michigan State University. He is the former co-Executive Director of the Illinois Technology Enterprise Center at Argonne and was EIR at the University of Illinois. He was the founding CEO of several startup companies based on university research in areas such as nanotechnology and advanced materials. Neil holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA from The University of Chicago. He attended graduate school at the Australian Graduate School of Management and studied in Japan on a scholarship from JETRO. Named a 2007 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, he twice attended their annual meeting in Davos. Recognized for Outstanding Entrepreneurship by NSF. Twice an invited witness on tech transfer for the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Research & Science Education. Contributor to Forbes.com More about Neil: https://entrepreneurship.msu.edu/about/people/ Connect with him on LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/neilkane Presentation #2: Totle, DEX aggregator Decentralized trading doesn't have to suck. David Bleznak, CEO of Totle, will give an overview of the current DEX ecosystem, future goals, and how Totle plays a major part. Speaker Bio: As an avid investor in the crypto markets, David Bleznak has been successful in picking winners among the many tokens and protocol coins that have emerged over the past few years. Noticing a lack of investing tools in the arena, he decided to create his own crypto asset management solution with Totle. David is a self-designated “dexpert” or expert in decentralized exchange platforms. He has studied the industry diligently while pushing the DEX space forward towards mainstream adoption. MeetUp Schedule: 6:00 PM - Arrival/networking with refreshments 6:15 PM - Presentation #1 + Q&A 7:15 PM - Presentation #2 + Q&A 8:00 PM - Introductions, Projects + Public announcements 8:30 PM - Post-MeetUp at local restaurant/bar RSVP Info: We expect this to be a popular event, and please be aware there's limited room. • What is MakerDAO | DAI and Why it Matters (with Detroit Blockchainers)

I'll be presenting MakerDAO at the Detroit Blockchainers Meetup in March. Come join us! Read more: MakerDAO stands to transform the financial industry by creating a stable and decentralized currency allowing individuals and businesses to realize the future of money. However, as MakerDAO gains more and more popularity, the confusion around what makes its ETH collateralized stable coin, DAI, so different from Tether, USDC, Pax, and other stable coins grows as well. Come join The Detroit Blockchain Center as Alex Fisher, Blockchain Consultant, explains what MakerDAO is, how DAI works, and why it matters for the future of finance.

  • Ethereum Build Night

    Red Door Digital

Who? Ethereum build nights are meetups for software developers wanting to get their hands dirty building applications and tools related to Ethereum. This group is primarily for people with programing experience, but anyone interested in learning about developing applications for Ethereum or looking for people to help them create their ideas is welcome to attend. Even if you just want to hang out with some passionate, nerdy programmers, you are welcome! What? The structure of our meetings is very loose -- attendees can decide what they want to do. The goal is that developers will come with ideas for small projects and find like minded peers to start building stuff. We will teach each other about developing web applications for Ethereum and help each other through any road blocks. Experienced Ethereum developers will be available to help other devs learn the basics as well as the intricacies of the platform. Where? We will be meeting every other Wednesday, starting April 4th, at Red Door Digital in Detroit, 7500 Oakland Ave, Detroit, MI 48211. When? Meetings will start around 7pm and go as long as people want. The Detroit Blockchainers also meet at the same place at the same time. We are hoping that joining forces with them will help spread the word more quickly and foster a collaborative environment. Why? There are a lot of meetups that like to talk about the potential of blockchain technology or other high level aspects of this emerging domain, but virtually none of them focus on building stuff. This is our attempt to change that. We want to build the future, not just talk about how great it is going to be. ...and because building projects is always more fun with other people. Also, feel free to bring snacks and beverages to share :)
