Liberty Reservoir: Liberty West-Morgan Run! A Moderate 6.7 Mile Hike!
A taste of Loch Raven Reservoir, but without the people. You may not think highly of starting a hike with busy MD 32 just above you on your right, but you’ll quickly move away from civilization. Unlike the trails at Loch Raven Reservoir, which often run right alongside the water, the trails here at Liberty Reservoir run up the hill, away from the water a bit. This hike includes a river crossing at Little Morgan Run so expect wet feet and a fun adventure although it tends to sometimes dry up in the fall and winter but who would complain about that ... In warmer weather it is often a most welcome treat.
It doesn't get better than this for a hike to transition to "true" moderate hikes, if hill work, and not distance have been your limiting factors. This hike is chock full of rolling hills and is fantastic transition the more challenging side of moderate hikes. There are lots of ups and downs for a hike that is under 10 miles, so it is a great leg workout and will help develop those hiking legs!
This hike will be led at a moderate pace of about 2.5mph and the average hiking pace used as a baseline in most hiking books. (most common pace).

Please remember we are a social hiking group that values fellowship and camaraderie and practice good hike etiquette (http://www.meetup.com/Maryland-Hiking/pages/Hiking_and_Trail_Etiquette/). We take breaks as necessary and have a guide in the front to help ensure that no hiker is left behind. If you get upset because someone has to rest at the top of a hill etc. then please find another group! We are very supportive, encouraging, and focus on safety while getting or staying fit on the trail and practicing Leave No Trace (http://www.meetup.com/Maryland-Hiking/pages/Leave_No_Trace_Hiking/) outdoor ethics.
