A Newly Scouted Hike in Patapsco Valley State Park: Woodstock South Trails! A Moderate 4 or Strenuous-Side-of-Moderate 7 Miles of Gorgeous, Hilly Terrain
A remote area that truly is a hidden gem! We will make a double loop in a section of Patapsco Valley State Park on trails that take us over moderate, yet rewarding, terrain. While many developed areas inside Patapsco Valley State Park provide amenities for family outings, camping, and picnics, lucky for us the state park also offers huge tracts where you’re on your own as we will enjoy today.
Since the area for this hike runs through unmaintained areas of the state park, it promises solitude, peace, and wildlife. We're as likely to see a horse as a trail bike.
Nearby City: Woodstock/Marriottsville, MD
Length: About 7 hilly miles with an easy opt-out at about 4 hilly miles that cuts out about 400 feet of elevation gain
Trail Type: Triple jagged loops
Skill Level: Moderate
Total Elevation Gain: 1500 feet
Habitat: Wooded stream valley and mostly wooded trail with some grassy areas. Several modest stream crossings, usually with stepping stones
Amenities: None but what nature provides
Special Attractions: Post-hike refueling at a nearby pub or restaurant. There are several options in the area.
