Superbike races in Birmingham

  • Jun 21, 2014 · 8:00 AM

The AMA superbike races are being held at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, AL just outside Birmingham. They have what has to be one of, if not the best, motorcycle musuem  http://www.barbermuseum.org/ you will ever find there as well. They have races in 3 classes over the two days. Right now, it is only showing Sunday races so Saturday may be time trials (they have been on Fridays in past years and Races both Saturday and Sunday). I called the track and they have not released race times as yet. Race info: http://www.amaproracing.com/rr/events/event.cfm?year=2014&eid=2014011415

We will leave at 8:00 a.m. for the approximately 3 hour ride to the track, stopping once for gas along the way. If it turns out that Saturday is all time trials, we can adjust the departure time for later in the day but it is still worth getting there a day earlier and taking in the museum. Tickets can be purchased at: https://events.cuetoems.com/ama_2014/OnlineTicketSales.aspx?utm_source=amaeblast&utm_source=AMA+TICKETS+NOW+ON+SALE+-+GENERAL+DATABASE&utm_campaign=AMA+EMAIL+BLAST%21%21&utm_medium=email

I am staying at the LaQuinta 513 Cahaba Park Circle, Birmingham, AL 35242 Saturday night but others are welcome to book at the hotel of their preference. Races are usually over Sunday afternoon between 3 and 4 so we will ride home as soon as the races finish, stopping for gas or even dinner along the way if the group prefers. I estimate we will be home by 8:00 P.M. Sunday night or earlier.

I will update this posting as more information becomes available on race times.

April 30th update:

Information is now available on the race schedule. Leaving at 8:00 with a gas stop on the way there and lunch when we arrive in Birmingham will have us there to catch a little of the qualifying if we wish and the first races at 2:00 Saturday afternoon. Last race starting at 3:00 Sunday should finish by 3:30 and leave us plenty of time to ride home and stop for dinner as we get near Nashville.
