What we're about

Year round, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, there are scenic accessible walking/hiking trails in Midtown Toronto. Although many people frequent these trails, some people are not as familiar with them. Maybe because they don't know the trails that well or that they just don't like going alone. Either way, the Midtown ravine trails are extensive, nearby, a great form of exercise, and an opportunity to do activities with others.

The Midtown Raviners Walking Group is focused on brisk fast-paced walks/hikes through local trails/areas such as the: Kay Gardner Beltline trail, Moore Park trail, David Balfour Park trail, Evergreen Brick Works, Crothers Woods, the Don River trail, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, and residential neighbourhoods. A typical distance might be 8 - 10 km, but it could extend up to 15 km on occasion.

There are many great walking/hiking groups in Meetup. There's a group for everyone. Again, ours is focused on brisk walks/hikes (5 - 6 km/hour) in the Midtown area with meeting spots such St. Clair, Davisville, Rosedale, Castle Frank, and/or Broadview subway stations. Most walks will take place early am on a weekday, but early evening walks are an option too. There will lots of great conversations and beautiful scenery along the way, but we are also trying to keep these walks fast

This group just started and so it may take a few months to gain some momentum. It may even just be myself at first :) But as word gets around hopefully we'll have 10+ "Raviners" attending each walk.

I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming walk.

Ken

Upcoming events (5+)

Sunset 10 km Brisk Evening Walk with Hills/Stairs to the Brick Works

6:00 PM Start 10 km Evening Walk/Hike. Be prepared for a brisk pace with trails, hills and staircases here and there. That said, it will be lots of fun :) It will be similar to the previous week's Sunset walk, but with some new trails to change things up. We will be meeting outside of the New Balance store (1510 Yonge St) at the corner of Yonge & Delisle. It's one block north of St. Clair and is a short 2 minute walk from the subway. We are leaving at 6 pm. We will be finishing at St. Clair Subway station. Please dress for the weather and wear footwear with good traction and ankle support. No slippers, sandals, tuxedoes, suits, blazers, haha :) Anyway, I digress.... This scenic walk will take us through Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, the Beltline, the Moore Park ravine, the Evergreen Brick Works, the David Balfour Park trail, and more.... The walk will be approx. 10 km and will be at a brisk pace. Be prepared for a cardio workout. We will stop at the Brick Works for 15 - 20 minutes for a bathroom break (if it is open), water, and to check out the Sunset from the Lookout Point. We will then continue on through the various trails to the St. Clair Subway station. The route might vary slightly from the one shown on the map. Dress for the weather, bring water, and appropriate footwear (shoe/boot with good traction/ankle support). If you have a small flashlight or headlamp, bring it. It will only be getting dark during the last stretch of the walk. If you have any questions just ask. I look forward to seeing you there :) Ken IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) Again this will be a brisk walk with a few hills and stairs but we will take some time at the Brick Works to enjoy the view. 2) If your plans change, please take your name off the "Going" list as soon as possible so that others can participate. 3) Dogs are not allowed on MRWG walks/hikes.

FAST10 - St. Clair Subway Station 9:30 am - Beltline/Brick Works/Ravine Trails

FAST10 km - Brisk Walk with Hills & Stairs. We will be meeting outside of the main St. Clair Subway station entrance (beside the McDonalds) and finishing at St. Clair Subway station. We will be leaving at 9:30 am sharp. ---------------------------- If you are a first timer to this group and you are on the waiting list, please reach out and message me that you are ok with the distance and pace. The pace will be approx. 5.5-6km/hour combined with many ups and downs. ---------------------------- This scenic walk will take us through Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, the Beltline, the Moore Park ravine, the Evergreen Brick Works, and the David Balfour Park trail. The walk/hike will be just over 10 km and will be at a brisk pace. Be prepared to go up a few hills and staircases here and there. Although we will pass through the Brick Works, we will not be stopping there, and so there will be no washroom stops until we're back at St. Clair. After the walk/hike we can all get together for a coffee/tea for those who are interested. The route might vary slightly from the one shown on the map. Dress for the weather, bring water, and appropriate footwear. I look forward to seeing you there. If you have any questions just ask :) Ken IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) This will be a brisk walk with some occasional hills and stairs. 2) If your plans change, please take your name off the "Going" list as soon as possible so that others can participate.

East Don Parklands - Exploratory Walk/Hike 15 km +

Exploratory as in I don't know where I'm going but hopefully I will by the time we get there :) Some of the details for this walk/hike are still to be announced/decided but I'm thinking we can meet at Finch & Yonge (outside at the northeast corner) at 1pm and start at nearby Newtonbrook Park/Revcoe Ravine. We will head east through the various trails and then gradually start heading southeast through the various East Don Parkland trails. At some point we will end up at Sheppard & Leslie (Subway) and/or perhaps we can make it much further down. Dare I say the Brick Works :) or too far? Let me know what you think. ------------------------ If you are a first timer to this group and you are on the waiting list, please reach out and message me that you are ok with the distance and pace. The pace will be approx. 5.5-6km/hour combined with many ups and downs. ------------------------ After the walk/hike we can all get together for a coffee/tea for those who are interested. Friday Night Brisk "Half Chicken" Walk

Castle Frank Station

Is it just me, or does this route look like a chicken? Or someone else wisely pointed out, "it's a Rooster, not a Chicken". Either way, this walk/hike will be lots of fun and a great workout. But it's Friday night and so I don't think we have time for the Whole Chicken. So we're doing the Half Chicken :) After the walk, for those who want to partake, we will go somewhere on the Danforth for food/drink... Louis Cifer or TBA. Half Chicken 10 km Brisk Walk - Leaving from Castle Frank Subway station at 6 pm and ending at Broadview Subway station at approximately 8:30 pm. This pace for this walk will be somewhat more relaxed than most of our walks. After all it will be Friday night :) If you have been on other recent MRWG walks and/or you are familiar with these trails, this walk adds some new trails and will change up our previous routes. There will be hills and stairs, but the route will be mostly flat and we will choose a flat restaurant/pub :) This scenic walk will take us through the David Balfour Park ravine, the Beltline, Chorley Park, the Evergreen Brick Works, Crothers Woods/Sun Valley, the Don River trail, and some residential areas of Rosedale and more.... This brisk walk/hike will be 10+ km and will include hills and staircases here and there. The route might vary slightly from the one shown on the map. Dress for the weather, bring water, and appropriate footwear (shoes/boots with good traction and ankle support). If you have a small flashlight/headlamp, please bring it. I look forward to seeing you there. If you have any questions just ask :) Ken IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) If your plans change, please take your name off the "Going" list as soon as possible so that others can participate.
