Connecting the Canal: Segment 14--Waterton Canyon (W&T)

    As the finale to our High Line Canal Connecting the Canal series, in partnership with the High Line Canal Conservancy, we will walk from Waterton Canyon Parking Lot to the High Line Canal Diversion Structure at Mile Marker 0 of the High Line Canal Trail. We will walk approx 2 miles into the Canyon and then 2 miles back, for a total of 4-5 miles. To read about walking the entire 71 miles of the High Line Canal Trail, read Chris' blog posts.

    Note: Depending on construction and weather schedules, this segment may get rescheduled for later in the spring.

    Welcome Waivers: Please fill out the online “Welcome Waiver” or download, print, sign, and turn in a hard copy if this will be your first Walk2Connect walking experience in the past year.

    Bring: Water, appropriate clothing for the weather, and snacks. We may also see mountain goats, so bring your binoculars and camera.

    Walking Movement Leader: Chris Englert is a long time Walking Movement Leader with Walk2Connect and founder of our partner organization, Eat, Walk, Learn. She says “I love using walking as a platform to connect and look forward to walking with you. Please come. If there are barriers, we’ll overcome them together!”

    Meeting Location, Parking, and Planning: Park in the large Water Canyon parking lot. Waterton Canyon Trailhead 11300 Waterton Road Littleton, CO 80125.  This parking area is the beginning and end of the walk for this segment.

    Final Details: You will receive a final email from Chris by 5 pm the day before the walk with concluding instructions about parking, weather, or other details. Please refer to this email before heading out to the Meetup. If you do not receive this email by 5 pm, contact Chris immediately at[masked] 7280.

    Trip Notes:

    -All walkers who complete at least one segment of the Connecting the Canal Event will receive a water bottle from High Line Conservancy to be distributed at a later date. For the walkers who complete all 14 segments of the Connecting the Canal event series according to the official schedule will receive a branded tag from the High Line Canal Conservancy signifying the completion of the entire Canal trail.

    -There are no restrooms on this particular segment, nor are there places to purchase refreshments.

    -You should have at least 2 liters of water with you.

    -We will take breaks along the way as we find shade or welcoming spots.

    -Although the trip leader will bring snacks, please be sure you are packing what you need to be comfortable, quenched, and fed.

    -You may want to bring lunch.

    -Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and you may also want to include appropriate outerwear, hats, and gloves to accommodate for the weather.

    -NO DOGS ON THIS SEGMENT.

    -Cancellation Policy: We only cancel in extreme weather conditions on our path, such as ice, hail, or lightening. Check Meetup or text the walk leader for the most up-to-date conditions.
