What we're about

Wouldn’t it be nice – just for an hour – to sit in stillness, in quiet, to reconnect with our body and breath and calm the mind? This is a new MEET UP group for busy people who have an existing mindfulness practice and would like to continue sharing this experience with like minded people.

We meet regularly to practice together and share our experiences of staying mindful. There's guided meditations as well as other workshops and seminars to allow mindfulness to grow in all aspects of life, such as mindful eating and mindful walking in nature. Our monthly candle lit sessions are a chance to keep up with your practice and connect with other fellow minds in a beautiful setting. It’s a great way to unwind after work and recharge for the rest of the week. We hope to see you there!

Introduction to Kids Mindfulness 4-wk course

Whitespace Yoga & Wellbeing Studio

“If every 8yr old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world in one generation” Dalai Lama Exams, peer pressure, homework and social media are just a few of the many stressors faced by children, and these can quickly lead to anxiety and unhappiness. Often this manifests in the following behaviours: -Inability to regulate emotions -Under developed social skills -Poor attention -Low self esteem -Reduced quality of sleep -Anxiety triggered by academic exams and tests -Anger management issues Do you have a child, or work with children who have challenges in any of these areas? Then this might be the time to teach them mindfulness skills, which will in turn provide life-long benefits. Mindfulness is noticing what is happening around you right now, and learning to REALLY focus on the present moment. When children learn simple mindfulness techniques, they are able to focus more deeply and begin to pay attention allowing them to improve many areas in their lives. What to expect This course is specially designed to teach you and your child how to apply mindfulness and meditation skills to build resilience, enabling you both to cope with stress and difficult everyday situations. Kelly will skillfully lead you through a series of exercises and discussions which focus on the importance of listening, for both adults and children. You will develop ways for the whole family to improve their listening skills. At the heart of this will be learning age-appropriate breathing and relaxation techniques. The calm and safe environment of our Studio will support you as you enjoy these fun sessions and spend precious time together with your child, experiencing many benefits including: -Stress reduction reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression -Improvement of attention and focus in children with ADD and ADHD -Improvement in working memory, resulting in better academic results -Increased kindness and empathy towards family and peers -Better skills for dealing with different emotions Who is this for? Children aged between 6 and 11 years old and their family member or guardian. Mindfulness is a practice to be shared and taken into our everyday lives, which is why it is important to experience this course together so that both children and their grown-ups can learn techniques and skills to apply to life. No previous experience of mindfulness or meditation is required. What to bring Nothing is required for this course, although you may like to bring your own water bottles. Mats, chairs, blankets and bolsters are provided. About Kelly Kelly is a regular Whitespace teacher; you may have attended one of her yoga classes. She’s many things to many people; mum of two girls, a schoolteacher, staff well-being leader and yoga teacher, oh, and recent TedX speaker! Investment and Dates Course Dates: Monday 25th February – Monday 18th March with Kelly Fee: Full price £59 Adult with one child/ £89 Adult with two children Members £53.10 Adult with one child/ £80.10 Adult with two children “We thought Kelly, the course leader, was fantastic. She was engaging, calm and welcoming and we felt very comfortable talking to her and following her teaching. The exercises we practised were easy for complete newbies to mindfulness and we have gone on to use many of them at home. Both my girls were skeptics at the beginning of the course and quite reluctant to come along, but due to the welcoming and safe environment of the studio, they felt able to actively join in and fully participate every week. After the second week I would say we all really looked forward to Monday afternoons and the time we got to spend together there, away from the usual busy demands of our day to day life. Thanks so much for putting on this course.” – Ziggi, November 2018 https://www.whitespacestudio.co.uk/workshops-and-events/introduction-to-kids-mindfulness-4-wk-course/

4wk Introduction to Mindfulness

Whitespace Yoga & Wellbeing Studio

Wednesdays: 20th, 27th March, 3rd & 10th April 8pm – 9pm £59 Mindfulness is The Natural Way to Manage Your Stress & Anxiety We’re surrounded by time-saving technologies, yet many of us find ourselves constantly exhausted and in need of more time. The pressure we feel to be constantly connected and to multitask often makes us unhappy, distracted and stressed. Mindfulness meditation is a tried and tested method for helping us to relax and relieve stress. Don’t worry – you do not need to be calm or able to “shut off your mind” to enjoy Mindfulness. Monkey minds are welcome! What is Mindfulness Meditation? Mindfulness, simply put, is the practice of paying attention to the present moment, on purpose, and with compassion. Since most of our stress comes from worrying about the past or the future, focusing on the present gives our mind a chance to rest. It also has numerous health benefits (e.g. improved focus and resilience, boosted immune system, decreased pain and anxiety) – proven time and time again in scientific and medical settings. Your mind can be trained, and it is easier than you think! About the Introduction Course During this four-week beginners mindfulness course, we’ll discuss, explore and practice mindfulness techniques to help you stay focused on the present moment and reduce stress. You will receive handouts plus guided meditations to help support your new practice. Participants are encouraged to practice at home to experience the physical and emotional benefits of mindfulness meditation. You don’t have to be a pretzel person to participate- we offer chairs and cushions as seating options. The course content will be broken up into the following sections: Week 1 – Mindfulness: an introduction You will receive an introduction to the benefits of mindfulness and the different ways to incorporate it in your daily life. Some of the class activities will include a mindfulness of breathing and mindful eating exercises. Week 2 – Mindfulness: your body You will focus on getting out of your head and into your body and reviewing a great deal of body focused vocabulary in order to help with the mindful body scan exercise. You will also have a chance to learn the STOP practice to help you take a mindful break during your day. Finally, we will also have a quick introduction to mindful walking and movement. Week 3 – Mindfulness: thoughts & emotions Learn how to take a mindful approach to unpleasant thoughts and emotions and how to find balance between acceptance and improvement. Through the use of different metaphors and visualizations you will have the chance to learn how to observe rather than judge or obsess over these internal experiences. Week 4 – Mindfulness: others and yourself Focus on developing a more mindful and compassionate mindset towards yourself as well as others that you interact with. It will include an introduction to the Loving Kindness meditation, a mindfulness listening and speaking activity and tools to help you to continue your mindfulness practice in your daily life after the course. Who is Beginners Mindfulness for? This course is perfect if you’re interested in exploring the benefits of Mindfulness, but are short on time or unable commit to the full 8 week process.
