Details

The 6th annual Milwaukee Beer Mile will be held on August 10, 2019 at the Rugby Field just north of Bradford Beach on Lincoln Memorial Drive. This event is the only official Beer Mile run in Milwaukee each year. The event is free and open to the public. (Participants should bring their own beer.) The event is hosted by OMG.

To run a beer mile you need the following skills.

1. Remain upright while making left turns on a 400 meter track
2. Arm strength sufficient to lift a carbonated alcoholic beverage (5% by volume) to your mouth at an angle of 120°
3. Burping (ask a 10-year-old for a demo)

Specifically, you need to run four laps on a 400 meter track drinking one beer per lap. It takes the average person 10-20 minutes to run a beer mile. The Milwaukee male record is 6:38 by Tim Cigelske and the female record is 8:24 by Jenny Zwagerman. Both set on August 20, 2016.

The beer mile is a ONE MILE run. Most people finish in under 15 minutes. It's the shortest race of the year, and it's the only FREE race of the year that ends with a euphoric buzz!

Running the beer mile is NOT hard. A marathon is a hard. So are ladder workouts at the track. Running a beer mile is more of a mind over stomach thing.

Participation Options:

* Solo Runner
* Team Runner with 2, 3 or 4 person teams (split the beers between)
* Volunteer (time keeper, grilling, setup, cleanup)
* Spectator & Picnic Person (come and watch the fun)

The registration starts at 4:30. Bring your friends. Bring your own beer. Spread the word.

Frequent Questions:

Q: "I don't like beer and I hear you have to drink four?!"
A: Beer, schmeer. There are options. Alcoholic waters like White Claw and Truly Citrus are allowed as both are 5% and carbonated which meets the spirit of the challenge. You can also substitute wine if you want.

Q: "Seriously, I can't drink four beers."
A: Join a relay team! 2-person, 3-person, and 4-person relay teams are allowed. Divide the laps and beers as you see fit. If you're not on crutches you can run!

Q: "I don't have any friends to form a team."
A: No worries amigo. We'll team you up when you arrive on Saturday and by the end of the day you'll have two or three new friends!

Q: "Can I bring my husband and kids and just hang out for the picnic?"
A: That would be awesome. We'll have games and fun for kids, a campfire with s'mores, a grill with brats and burgers, bean bags, kite flying, giant jenga, volleyball, spike ball, water balloon toss contest, and more!

Q: "I've been sober for 19 years and drinking is not for me."
A: Even AA members can run un-officially with non-alcoholic near beers like Weihenstephaner (from the oldest brewery in the world) or Brewdog, or frankly any beverage with lots of carbonation. Root beer works! The challenge will be remarkably similar and just as much fun.
