Sometimes you read a work of fiction that changes things - how you view what literature can do, how you view yourself, how you view the world. For some of us, this is the feeling that we are trying to capture every time we pick up a new book, even though it only happens with one book out of ten (or twenty, or thirty...)

The idea for this meetup is to build a small, consistent group of folks who want to increase the ratio of "mind blowing books" to books that don't quite get there, by taking turns suggesting books that they have already read (and hopefully the rest of the group has not) which did have that effect. Some examples of books that we may read in the future:

• The Hundred Brothers (Antrim)

• The Sot-Weed Factor (Barth)

• Ficciones (Borges)

• Forty Stories (Barthelme)

• If On a Winter's Night a Traveler (Calvino)

• Reader's Block (Markson)

• Blood Meridian (McCarthy)

• Pale Fire (Nabokov)

• Confederacy of Dunces (Toole)

Our primary focus is discussion. We love to dig inside the books and find out what challenges, annoys, inspires, or educates us. We meet once a month to discuss a new book at a coffee shop or a member's home. We also like to attend author talks, special literary events, and have social outings from time to time.
