Prenatal Yoga

The Urban Eco-Village of San Jose

Mindful Prenatal Yoga is different than many traditional yoga practices in that there is less of a focus on the exact posture achieved, and more focus on body/mind awareness. Slowing the pace to be aware of physical limits and pausing long enough to experience them shifts our perception. Mindful Yoga allows for looking deeply into each moment and movement with full acceptance and without forcing ourselves to be different from how we are. This practice allow for the mom, body, and baby to prepare for birth. Shawn McSweeney is a Mindful Practitioner, Awakened Birth Practitioner Birth Doula, & Yoga Teacher. She has been teaching yoga for over 30 years, offering prenatal yoga, mother-baby yoga, couples yoga for labor, children yoga, and adult yoga classes. She is a skilled and trained birth doula, postpartum doula, and lactation consultant. Shawn is currently receiving her certification as a Mindfulness Meditation teacher. Shawn is interested in re-awakening the connection to sacredness in ordinary daily living. She creates a space for her clients to develop and explore this connection and provides them with skillful means to continue this inquiry on their own, whether practicing yoga, raising a family or exploring their role in the collective unfolding of life. Fee option: 5 class Community pass $85, 10 class Community class $125, drop-in fee sliding scale based on income. For a positive and safe experience: Arrive 10 minutes early Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for full freedom of movement. Layers help to adjust for temperature changes during and after class Remove your shoes upon entering the yoga and wellness studio. This respects the ancient tradition of the East and maintains a clean environment in which to practice and learn. We encourage you to bring your own yoga mat, which will be a welcome landing place for you and your energy. Mats are available, and will need to be cleaned at the end of the yoga sessions. For classes with babies and young children please bring a receiving blanket or towel that your little one is familiar with Notify the teacher before class of any special considerations, including injuries, that might require modifications Turn off all sounds including the silent/vibration setting from your cellphone If you have to leave early please let the teacher know before class and exit mindfully Only people participating in class are allowed in the studio
