This is a 1 hour restorative Yin Style Yoga class with emphasis on breathing to increase energy flow, opening joints and releasing connective tissue. Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with postures or asanas that are typically held for 3-5 minutes applying moderate stress to the connective tissues with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Yin Yoga poses are also designed to improve the flow of qi, the subtle energy said in Chinese medicine to run through the meridian pathways of the body. Improved flow of qi is hypothesized to improve organ health, immunity, and emotional well-being. The class consists mainly of floor postures and is open to all levels and is a great way to balance other yoga classes or exercise you may do during the week!
Sari Grossman - BIO: Born and raised in the Rocky Mountains of Canada, Sari has always had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and has been active in many different sports.
A competitive downhill skier for many years, Sari’s ski racing career was ended by a serious knee injury. She then became certified with Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance (CSIA) and the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation (CSCF). She instructed adult skiing and coached a children’s race team in Banff, Canada. She also obtained certification as an aerobics instructor from the Canadian Fitness Education Services (CFES).
After studying one year at the University of Calgary, Sari took the summer off to travel. That vacation turned in to seven years living in Israel, where she completed her BSC in Biology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, while simultaneously becoming fluent in Hebrew.
In Israel, Sari also became an advanced Scuba diver and was introduced to Hatha Yoga. She soon realized the value of yoga in recovery and rehabilitation from injuries. Her passion for yoga led her to seek out different disciplines and she has been practicing Hatha, Vinyasa, Anusara and Bikram yoga since 1999.
In 2009 Sari made her second trip to India for an intensive month-long yoga education which included pranayama, meditation and asanas. It was during this trip to India that the spark for Yogamore was born.
Having worked as a computer software engineer after graduating from university and then as the Director of New Business Development for over 10 years, Sari decided to align her work with her true passion – yoga. Since then, she obtained her Registered Yoga School Certification (RYS 200) in Las Vegas and has traveled to Spain and Canada to study other yoga specialties.
Sari truly loves yoga and has a deep understanding of yoga as a philosophy as well as a practice that can be used as a therapy to treat many physical and emotional or psychological ailments. She believes that energy in the body can affect how one feels and that yoga asana practice, pranayama and meditation can help increase positive energy flow thus enhancing ones physical and emotional experiences. She is Reiki level 1 certified through Ganesha Center and is obtaining more advanced Reiki training.
