What we're about

This group will be coming together to explore our inner landscape through daily meditation practice and weekly group discussion.

MBSR was designed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 in the University of Massachusetts. Initially it was designed to treat chronic pain but has been shown to helpful for an extensive list of symptoms including anxiety and depression.

Potential benefits of the MBSR include increased awareness and concentration, a sense of balance and enhanced well-being, learning new ways to cope with stress and pain, learning to be kinder to ourselves, and improved health benefits such as better sleep, less pain, and better immunity.

However the primary benefit of mindfulness is the way it helps us to see ourselves and our lives more clearly and to befriend ourselves and our own experience. Mindfulness helps us to be more present with whatever is going on for us, and therefore creates more space to make decisions about how to proceed.

Classes consist of meditation, exploring mindfulness concepts, and group discussion.

This course asks you to complete about an hour of home practice every day (45 minutes of meditation and some short reflective exercises).

By enrolling in MBSR and making the commitment to really immerse yourself in daily mindfulness practice for the duration of the course, you are creating the conditions to explore the effects of developing mindfulness in your life and experiencing the difference living with more awareness can make for you. Like anything in our lives, the more we put into our practice the more we will get out of it.

We will be meeting for 30 minutes to learn how to meditate, take a pause, and stay connected.
