This group combines hiking and mindfulness. Each hike will focus on the sights and sounds on the trail. If you prefer the trill of bird song, the crunch of leaves underfoot, and the crackle of a campfire to small talk, this is a group for you.
We will do monthly hikes and hopefully a couple camping overnights in or near the Shenandoah or on trails such as Sky Meadows. For camping trips, there will be a hike during the day and a campfire at night.
This group is intended for people interested in being mindful together. We will aim to leave our work week behind and to revel in the wonder of nature. No politics, no religion, no work blather, please.
To help focus, we will start or end hikes with a brief poem or paragraph celebrating the natural world. Think Wordsworth's "The Daffodils" or Thoreau's "Walden Pond". Or even "I think that I shall never see, a poem as lovely as a tree..."
