Part one : Automation – Dispelling The Myths

On the 12th July Chris Thacker, Co-Organiser of Liverpool Tester Gathering and Lead QA at, has kindly agreed to share his thoughts with us on how useful Automation Testing is depending on the context you are working in.

You may have noticed a trend over the past 24 months of companies going on an ‘automation journey’, or Test Managers asking for Automation skills in Job Descriptions but when you get there, there isn’t all that automation in place.
It’s left a few of us scratching our head over what Automation exactly is, how it can be used and exactly what the advantages and disadvantages are.
Chris’s talk will hopefully spark some lively debate and dispel a couple of the myths along with recognising that Automation can be a great way to improve your current test processes, it’s all about working in the context that you are in.

This talk will;

• Hopefully dispel a few myths about automation and testing
• Talk from real world examples of how we've worked it at LateRooms and other places I've worked
• Ideally let people think more about testing as a craft rather than as a stepping stone to automation

Part Two – Lightening Talks!

As usual we will have 15 minutes for those of you who want to ask questions, make your own observations, or get up and offer your own opinion for 30 seconds on what has been discussed! This is a great way to build your confidence with public speaking or raise your profile within the Testing community. It’s all good practice for those of you who are talking at TestBash or had supplied a talk and hoped to talk at TestBash – something to put on the application for next year! Hint hint!

Part Three – Mystery Game!

Ok so…we are going to do something a little bit different and fun at the end of the lightening talks. We will be getting into teams and playing a mystery game – some of you may have played before but that is all you are getting for now! Hopefully it will be very interactive and good fun and there will be prizes for everyone who takes part – and of course a prize for the winning team!*

Pizzas and Beer from 18:30pm at Spaceport X , talks starting at 7pm, lightening talks and then the mystery game!

Drinks as usual will be in Bakerie before and after the event on Lever Street.

Looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces there!

*There will also be a prize for the most unique team name!
